My roommate was showing me her old prom photos last night, and the prom was "fly away" themed so they posed in front of a mock airplane. But WHY THE HELL are there SWASTIKAS on the airplane!?

This is from a public high school in Wash State.



edit: aha! my friend explained that this means the "colonel" took down 3 nazi planes. But yeah, still looks weird.

1. My guess since the name begins with COL, this guy was

some aviator in World War Two, and hopefully this is just a poorly indicated display that's saying he shot down three Nazi fighters, or bombers.

on edit: It reads that he's got a crew, he probably flew a bomber, looks like he hit a train or train yard, and possibly something really big (and Nazi) three times

another: yup "He went on to fly mainly missions escorting B-17s and B-24s over the Ploesti oil fields in 1943 and 1944 before finishing up his 50 missions. He scored three kills during the war, two 109s and 1 Italian 220 a/c flown by Rumania."
