Listening to Samuel Barber's Adaggio For Strings. Magnificent.
Even if it DOES still remind me of "Platoon". It's an incredible piece of music.

2. I bought a CD
that was only that song on it, by all different groups and all different instrumentation, even voice. It was wonderful and then my son stole it from me and I miss it.....

3. Really, really moving.
That is my second fav piece of music after Nessun Dorma, which I used in my wedding (Pavarotti, of course.)

8. very likely the most beautifully sad...
and tragic assemblage of tone, melody, and modulation found within contemporaneous music  the compilation title: Barber's Adagio, has several renditions; string, wind, electronic and such...but it is the choral piece that is positively wrenched with beauty...

16. No piece sounds more like grief
No wonder it is played on occasions of public mourning, as after JFK was assassinated.
