Fake food????

I was in the dentist office and the dentists wife had some "fake" food, pies, cupcakes, bread, etc. and they smelled WONDERFUL. She even had fake beverages - coffee, tea, milk, etc. They actually looked like real food.

WHAT ARE THESE? I've been looking all over the internet and I cant find much other than it could be salt dough? I want to try my hand at these and I dont even know what they are exactly.

I saw a show on the discovery channel a few years ago that was all about fake food, used by restaurants and stores that want to display images of "freshness" to their clients. It also included all of the tips/tricks advertisers use when prepping food for commercials and the like, such as hand picking each dorito from over 1,000 bags worth to make the perfect bowl of doritos, etc.

Apparently, the japaneese have perfected the art. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the company that churns them out.

2. No.. I think she made them herself..

She had a note on the counter that special made items can be made and to ask the receptionist. I was a bit sore from my work so I didnt ask her about them then.

I remember the show you were talking about! That was a few years ago I think.
