9. either Thunder Road by the Boss or Uncle John's Band by the Dead
early Bruce, like the 6 shows in December 75 at the Tower in Upper Darby Pa,

early-mid Jerry on the latter, '72-4 when his voice was sweet and wistful

i think i have played those two songs far more than any other two.

only thing close is Neil Young and Cinnamon Girl

12. "Running on Fumes" by Keller Williams
Edited on Fri May-06-05 09:55 PM by intheflow
I drive a lot. This song speaks to me.

more than often i drive so much it is,
like my ass is my feet
i see little black furry, running dogs,
and i'm standing up in my seat
i'm standing up in my seat
to avoid sleep driving, crashing and dying
gotta turn up the tunes
rest area next right is my salvation
because i'm running on fumes
i'm running on fumes (2x)

lids get heavy, the window goes down on my face
well i begin to beat
keep my eyes open until i get there
then i'll kick back in that bucket seat
gonna kick back in that bucket seat

scattered, smothered, covered and chunked
maybe a short stack
mountain dew, mini fizz and camel lights
its a box or a soft pack,
box or a soft pack

forty long mile dollars is cheap for
5 hours in a motel bed
truck stop shower, is only 5 dollars,
i think i'll go with that instead
i'm a going with that instead

sun goes to china, the sky comes alive
and those paintings a purple swirl
lift up the glass and you climb into the color
then you deeply breath and absorb
deeply breath and absorb

well i'm here, not there
you know there, should be here
it would be nice if everywhere were here
we would not have to leave or drive or fly
or hurry real fast or decide
hurry real fast or decide

cause more than often i drive so much it is,
like my ass is my feet
i see little black furry, running dogs,
and i'm standing up in my seat
i'm standing up in my seat
to avoid sleep driving, crashing and dying
gotta turn up the tune
rest area next right is my salvation
because i'm running on fumes
i'm running on fumes (3x)

13. this week: 'Cottonseed' Drive-By Truckers
Artist/Band: Drive-By Truckers
Lyrics for Song: Cottenseed
Lyrics for Album: The Dirty South

I came to tell my story to all these young and eager minds
To look in their unspoiled faces and their curious bright eyes
Stories of corruption, crime and killing, yes it's true
Greed and fixed elections, guns and drugs and whores and booze

It's been a while since I put on a suit of my own clothes
And even longer since I cast my shadow on a church house door
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong
I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all

I used to have a wad of hundred dollar bills in the back pocket of my suit
I had a .45 underneath my coat and another one in my boot
I drove a big ole Cadillac, bought a new one anytime I pleased
And I put more lawmen in the ground than Alabama put cottonseed

I spent a few years on vacation, sanctioned by the state I mentioned
But a man like me don't do no time too hard to come back from
The meanest of the mean, I see you lock away and toss the key
But they're all just loud mouth punks to me, I've scraped meaner off my shoe

Somewhere, I ain't saying, there's a hole that holds a judge
The last one that I dug myself
And I must admit I was sad to lay him in it, but I did the best I could
Once his Honor grows a conscience, well folks like that there just ain't no good

There's a pretty girl out there said "Daddy, you stay cool tonight
All I need from you is to come home and be here by my side
Say what you gotta say to shut their Bibles and their mouths
If they was to tie a noose, they'd have to lay their Bibles down"

I ain't here to save no souls and even if I could
I could never save enough to put back half the ones I took
So if they rest in torment you can't say it's cause of me
They'd long been bought and paid for like that fool's in Tennessee
