Has anyone else been contacted about the Kids First Act?
Someone called about this bill Kerry's working on which would set up a program targeting federal funds along with state funds to provide low cost health care for uninsured children.

It seemed the woman who called expected me to just say 'yes, I'll do it' because she was surprised when I asked about a website or something to find out more about the act. She instead offered to answer any questions and when I asked she eventually ended up telling me that this bill would punish parents who did not subscribe to the program by making them ineligible for the dependent deduction on their federal income tax return.

That was enough for me... I said I wouldn't support the bill if it punished parents for not opting into the program.

What does everyone else think?

1. Never heard of it until now
I'll definitely do some digging on this, though. From what you describe, it sounds as if parents without health insurance for their kids are denied the federal dependent deduction if they don;t sign up, but parents with dependent coverage are exempt from the provisions of this bill?

4. Here's the thomas.loc.gov link
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c109:2:./temp/~c109kBZ9Ac::

I'll have to read this later, but the first page of my google search showed various letters of support, etc. No critics that I could see, FWIW.

3. no paper trail? first red flag...
Whenever a fundraiser or charity raiser first calls me, I usually hang up without saying so much as a word. There have been several scams in our area where scammers cut and paste words in and out of a conversation and then go ahead and bill you for whatever crap they're hawking.

I don't donate to any organization without verification of legitimacy.
