Train your cat to use the toilet !

CANBERRA - The line for the toilet is about to get longer.

Fed up with the mess created by kitty litter and inspired by the cat "Mr. Jinks" in the Hollywood film "Meet the Fockers," an Australian woman has invented a toilet training system for cats called the "Litter-Kwitter."

1. My cat is obsessed with the toilet.
I been thinkin' maybe she would like to use it...she will come running from wherever she is when she hears the flush, and if she sees someone going in there that's where she wants to go.

2. Hmmm. My cat or my teenage son.
Quite a dilemma. Can cats aim better?

3. No, they don't aim good
I had a cat who wanted to use the toilet when I was a child. I probably didn't clean her litter box to suit her. She would pee all over the seat. If I had been smarter (or older) I think I could have easily trained her using this woman's method, however I didn't understand that much about cats at the time.

5. I didn't have to train mine
My kitty, smokey (may he rest in peace), taught himself. He was the smartest kitty in the world!

10. I tried a similar method years ago
On my cat, that is. There was a blue plastic cover for the seat that you were supposed to fill with litter and gradually raise a pile of newspapers with the cover on top. Once the cat was accustomed to doing his business at the lofty height of the toilet seat, the plan was to transition the cover over to the toilet and miraculously one day the cat was supposed to use the toilet without the cover.
After several days and with the newspaper pile about half-way up, both the cat and I lost interest.
I had a friend many years ago whose cat routinely used the toilet so I knew it was possible.
