2. I doubt it
seeing as we don't know the following words:

Whom
Bell
Tolls

3. But I'm sure you could have answered in Latin
Since you only need the one word to answer it, and I can't imagine that you haven't learned that word.

4. Latin, ha! I took Latin for four years!
All we did was talk about basketball b/c the teacher was the boys bball coach.

I wish I wasn't so foolish back then and actually tried to learn the language. I don't know very much about the subject.:hi:

7. Tibi!
Tibi: for thee. It's a dative. If I remember aright.

8. hang on a minute
we dunno how to say thee, if its a varying degree of formality. But anyway, the quote is "It tolls for thee" not merely, thee.

9. John Donne's verse concludes with the words "for thee"...
In the Latin dative, the 'to' or 'for' is part of the verb -- kind of like the inherent 'of' in the genitive.

Incidentally, thee is actually not "formal", but rather the intimate form of you. It's pretty much fallen out of modern English, and in any case you needn't worry about it.

13. This thread reminds me of the Latin lesson in Life of Brian
When Brian is writing "Romans go home" on the palace walls.
