I may be asked to leave DU because I have Sinned (Wal-Mart)
I'll make this Short and Sweet:

I wanted a High-Definition Wide-Screen Television..After checking Consumer Reports and seeing Repair factors, quality, cost, Etc. I came to the conclusion the the Sanyo HD28745 would be the one to buy.

I searched for 3 days and the ONLY people who had it was Wal-Mart.
I went..I bought...Forgive Me.

Gotta' Run....."Medium" is coming on and the buttered Popcorn is almost ready.. :)

2. Hey - you gotta do what you gotta do.
That's my feeling. In our new neighborhood in Texas (new to us), Wal-Mart is closer than Target, and my husband usually goes there despite my protests.

22. I'm thinking penance should include watching a couple of weeks of FoxNews.

That'll take the gleam off of almost anything.

7. Oh well. It may not be the best place to shop...
But it's the cheapest. We're poor. We have to buy cheap. Do what you have to do.

10. What?
IF you are "poor" I don't think a wide screen high def TV is the first on the list. The opening poster stated "it was the only place that had such item."

The "poor" excuse is what every person uses that shops there. And you are contributing to keeping someone else just as poor as you are. I hate lectures...but DAMN we make a good living and we have a 25 inch TV from 1999 and an even older hand me down one from earlier and I don't think anybody that CAN AFFORD a top of the line TV and has a subcribtion to Consumer Reports CAN AFFORD to spend I dunno $500 more and make some smaller store and it's workers happy.

Excuses to follow no doubt.

21. I was talking about ME shopping there.
I was trying to make the guy feel better for buying his tv there. He's not the only one here that shops there. And this is not an excuse. I'm just clarifying myself.

25. well
sometimes we can't always choose the "best" place to buy what we want. There are lots of folks who work at Walmart and what we buy pays their bills... as scary as their employment, wage and salary, and other policies may be. It might be more advantageous on some level to continue to write letters to the Walmart powers that be or any stockholders, to change the company's practices. I don't go there since there isn't one close to me and I think their policies are creepy, but others may have much less choice.

11. Here is what you can do to make up for it
Pick the store that you would have bought it from. Then subtract the price you paid at Wal Mart from the price at that store. Then cut that in half and donate it to your favorite charity, the Democratic Party, DU or somewhere. Then you supported something that you feel is important and still saved some money.

As long as you give a nice donation to our friend Andy, you will be alright.

Please do so for me as well. I couldn't afford this last effort due to my personal demands. Seriously if you can give a donation to Andy Stephenson.

23. Call me guilty as well.
The closest Target to me is 30 minutes away and the Wal-Mart is 5. If I need something (and I'm strapped for cash), I go there. I'm a 19 year old working two jobs, it's not like I'm rich. We're all human. But, I do my part for the good as well. I donate to DU when I can and I do my part when election time rolls around. Like I said, we're all human and just because we shop at ONE place doesn't mean that all the good we do can be taken away from us.

24. Don't feel too bad.
Some of us have few alternatives. I live in a town that has lost Kmart and Roses and never had a Target or anything like that. I despise Wal Mart and try to do without something if it means dealing with them.

27. Also..Keep in mind that I did make an effort (a big one) to try to find..
..the same set at a Non-Wal-Mart store.
For a comparable set, Circuit city or best buy or any local dealer wanted 799 to 1100 hundred dollars for the set.

The Sanyo Brand has the best repair record, the best warranty and a host of other "stuff" Plus the fact that it was only (choke) $547.00.

One small consulation....at $547.00, Wal-Mart couldn't have made very much dough on the TV.

29. Can't and shouldn't are too different things.
I shouldnt' shop at Home Depot because they are massive Repug supporters, and my dollars are quite literally going into the hands of the republican party. But they are the only ones around who have the stuff I need, so hey, I shop there.
