Sideways
Just saw it. A friend of mine from San Diego said that movie was California. After seeing it I would have to agree. Everything about it screamed California. About three quarters of the way through I started thinking about the title. It seems that the two male characters were at an impasse and their little interlude in the wine country was neither here nor there. Kind of like a big bubble in their lives. Miles being self-loathing and Jack being self-destructive. Maya and Stephanie are living their day to day when they encounter Miles and Jack and are unaware of the men's duplicitous nature. This is not forward motion for Miles and Jack it is "sideways" as the trip, at least in their own minds isn't going to contribute to their "real lives". I liked it. What did you think?

before I buy one.

3. Are you buying a late model?
I had a '79 Saab, I loved it. It was like driving a tank. That thing was on the road for over seventeen years.

4. I thought the title was about storing wine
Edited on Mon May-02-05 08:47 PM by xray s
You store the bottle sideways in order to prevent the cork from drying out and ruining the wine.

Miles's life was kind of stored sideways, waiting for someone to open up to again.

Jack's life was totally spoiled. His cork had dried out.

5. Indeed, that was just my interpretation.
Sounds like the two kind of arc though.

6. I so loved that movie, I even saw it twice in the theater
and, I hardly ever to go the movies.
I liked that it was about "real" people with real issues that the rest of Hollywood seem to ignore.

It was a lot of love/hate. You hate Miles b/c he stole from his mom, but you love him because he's self-loathing. And everyone knows someone like both Miles and Jack.

7. I know so many guys like Jack
And you wanted to believe that he was really serious about Stephanie, then he moves on to the waitress at the ribs joint. My girlfriend said that she didn't think that it was believable that two grown men could act like that. I told her that I had seen much worse, and I have.

9. Oh, she should work in a car dealership
The ages range from 25-40 (with a couple in the 50 range)...okay, that's their human years, in maturity it's more like 13. Don't get me wrong, they're mostly good guys that don't cheat, but there are Jacks in this world.

Grown men do act like Jack, and really I don't think there's such a thing as grown men. They'll appear grown up to a woman, but when you see a bunch of them together, they're definitely not grown men.
