Are you a salesman?
I so do not have the ability to hard sell something. I actually do (much to Bill Hicks' chagrin :() have a talent for marketing...but if I ask someone outright if they want something and they say 'no', I'm like "A'ight...cool".

So how would you fare as a salesman(woman)?

you're doing it wrong
:P

you don't waste time on people who aren't interested

law of average -

keep asking, eventually someone will show interest... those the ones you spend energy on :7

3. Right...like I can be bothered with that
:eyes:

I ask 5 people...4 aren't interested...law of averages tells me this is far too much fucking effort. :P

2. That is what I do
And I really enjoy it. But I am definitely not a "hard sell" type of person. What I enjoy about it is assessing what my customer is looking for, as well as what they actually need (which are often very different) and what they can realistically afford. Then I try to match them with the product that will satisfy all of that.

The key to sales (which too many people don't realize) is not to sell the highest ticket item you have right now but to generate a satisfied customer who will come back and buy again, as well as tell all their friends about the positive experience they had.

I used to sell snowmobiles which was a ball. Now I sell wine. It's all the same, no matter what your product is. I enjoy talking to people, learning about my product and being good at what I do.

7. Well see, you're not a stereotypical "salesman"
You're actually attempting to make someone happy, not fulfill a quota. My dad was a salesman for many years, and he was that way. Needless to say, he wasn't very sucessful... :(

9. Actually I do both
When I sold snowmobiles, I had to fill a quota and I never fell below it in four years. And now, my store, though one of the smallest in the district, has the second highest wine and liquor sales of any in the district (about 100 stores). Selling really IS an art and I think you have to enjoy it to do it well.

4. 25 years of selling
no one hard sells any one. The really good sales people learn everything about their products and their customer and hopefully some will be a good match.Sales is nothing more than communicating the benefits of the product, so someone will CHOOSE to buy.....

Always rememeber...
SW. SW SW next

Some will, some won't,so what.......next

How were you in being a political activist.......nothing more difficult.

5. So what would it take to get you to take this car home today ?
:D

I don't think I would make a good salesman. I think I'm a little too shy for that but I could be wrong.

11. I would be the WORST salesman ever.
I hate asking for things. I hate it. That is one of my weak points.
Selling things, for me, would be like begging people every day of my life. Couldn't do it, envy those who can.

12. I tried sales as a temporary thing when I first graduated college
and I found out that: a. I'm too considerate to be a sales person and, b. I hate sales people (present company excepted, of course). The company I worked for sold household fire alert systems. Really, really great products, but the scare tactics, being pushy with people who are just listening politely, and (especially) this "closing" bullshit really turned me off.

On the bright side, because of that job, I can tell when somebody is trying to "close" me, and it means somebody's about to get a piece of my mind in loud, rude language. :grr:

17. " Closing" is like SEX!
It you do everything right from the beginning, 'closing' will happen naturally! Always remember......foreplay is important!

13. I've worked a couple of retail jobs
My biggest problem was that I had no tolerance for women who tried to squeeze size 10 bodies into size 4 pants or first time grandparents who had to hear the educational merits of every single toy in the store before they bought a mobile for their 1 month old grandchild. Once I got past that I was a great sales person.

When I worked in a clothing store I had the best sales there. I think it was because I'd be honest with the customer. One summer we got these cute dresses in but the zippers constantly got stuck so I'd warn damn near everyone who came in the store to stay away from them. Another summer they mis ordered some shorts so we had hundreds of florescent too short denim shorts. Nobody looked good in those and I let them know it. They customers appreciated that I didn't let them walking out of their looking like a fool but I know my manager hated me. She wanted to get rid of me but couldn't for a number of reasons mainly because my sales were good and the district and regional managers know that.

16. At my part-time job,
I work at the front desk of a motel. I also prepare all of their ads and write "cold-call" style letters to construction companies, businesses that do a lot of travel in the area, etc.
I guess you could say that I do some sales-but all through print.
