ARRRGGGHH! I can't think of the name of a movie -- Help me, please
What I remember of the movie:

A younger guy (maybe mid to late 20s) is being pursued by law enforcement. He is trying to escape and ends up in an old graveyard. While there he was shot... and I think pulled underground by the people who live in a vast assortment of caves there.

The people who live under the graveyard are very interesting. Some cannot allow sunlight to touch them -- others have snakes for tongues -- interesting tattoos -- and more.

The guy becomes some sort of "undead" type after he was shot. The conflict is that he remains in love with a human girl.

Also, I think the name of the town/graveyard is "Meridia" or something like that.

Anyone?

3. The movie is remarkably unmemorable
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 09:54 PM by mikehiggins
It is based on a story by a Brit named (I think) Clive Barker who is Great Britain's answer to Stephen King. The movie was a fairly adequate representation of the story but the real question is why bother?

Until tonight I had successful suppressed any memory of story and/or movie. Thanks a whole bunch.

edited to correct mistaken name of author

6. Yes! Thanks to everyone -- apologies to those who hated it
My daughter is having a slumber party and wanted some scary movies. I need to preview this one again in advance, but I don't remember anything too graphic about it. It should be a good one for a group of preteens.

9. As a follow up
Posted fast to be first. :-)

I thought it was a very interesting story because it seemed more so than most of his work to be an outgrowth and statement about being gay. Clive Barker is gay and I just thought it was a more personal movie because it seemed to be stating how it was to be viewed as a "monster" while just trying to be yourself.

I am more a fan of his writing than his movies but do think HellRaiser was a damn fine horror movie.
