Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 06:39 PM by Bombtrack
those movies don't have soundtracks of note that I know of.

The best soundtracks of the top of my head might be like Dazed and Confused.

I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
It's just a passing phase
It'll go 'way

You can dress nautical
Learn to tie knots
Take lots of Dramamine
Out on your yacht
But when you're all alone
And nothing bites
You'll wish you stayed at home
With someone nice
But when you think you made it disappear
It comes again, "Hello, I'm here", and
I've got angst in my pants

You can be smart as hell
Know how to add
Know how to figure things
On yellow pads
Answer so no one knows
What you just said
But when you're all alone
You and your head
What's the computer say, it's mumbling now
It says "hey Joe"
It's spelled it out and
"You've got angst in your pants"
"You've got angst in your pants"

But when you think you've made it disappear
You're sure you made it disappear
And you've still got angst in your pants

I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
It's just a passing phase
It'll go 'way
I hope it doesn't show
It'll go 'way
Give it a hundred years
It won't go 'way
And I've got angst in my pants
I've got angst in my pants

129. yes ocean's 11, great jazzy score...
...the hottest blues soundtrack i can refer you to is 'the hot spot' which by the way is a very sexy b-movie...
gladiator is four stars, actually the one i listen to all the time is the gladiator additional music disc, which has some alternate versions and tracks that didn't make the film. hans zimmer is remarkable, and lisa gerrard is too.
the black hawk down soundtrack is good.
ancient surf movie wise, it's 'five summer stories.'

Leap of Faith (great soundtrack with oldies)

Born on the Fourth of July

Last of the Mohicans

Amadeus

Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home

Paint Your Wagon (yeah, yeah, yeah, so what if Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood aren't the best singers in the world? The songs rock!)

The Sting

Ooops, forgot one:

23. I think it's also a matter of how much you listen to music
because soundtracks with nothing but scores are great if you love classical music (as I do) but if you want to listen to oldies or pop, you're more apt to listen to those kinds of soundtracks.

I worked in Music Business Affairs for a year and a half (on contracts for composers to work on movies) so I've also very familiar with both.

The part of the main theme when the soldiers are gunned down by their own officers is great, another great musical score is when Danilov has himself killed so he can show Vassali where Konig is, and the end theme is great as well.

I like aggressive, active scores.

If you haven't heard "Passion Sources" you might want to take a listen. It has a bunch of music which helped inspire the score.

72. Singles and Dead Man Walking
For a proper early 90s flavor, Singles cannot be beat. Given my grungey youth, I love it to death.

My actual favorite soundtrack of all time is Dead Man Walking:

1. Dead Man Walking - Bruce Springsteen
2. In Your Mind - Johnny Cash
3. Woman on the Tier (I'll See You Through) - Suzanne Vega
4. Promises - Lyle Lovett
5. Face of Love - Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan & Eddie Vedder
6. Fall of Troy - Tom Waits
7. Quality of Mercy - Michelle Shocked
8. Dead Man Walking (A Dream Like This) - Mary Chapin Carpenter
9. Walk Away - Tom Waits
10. Ellis Unit One - Steve Earle
11. Walkin Blind - Patti Smith
12. Long Road - Eddie Vedder & Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

90. excellent picks-singles was the ultimate 90s alt-rock smapler
real alt-rock, not the phony STp/creed shit that followed. i wish i could go back in time and freeze the early 90s music scene and keep it going forever.

it almost felt like the 60 were upon us again

and cash's dead man walking track is truly an overlooked gem

81. The Magnificent Seven, El Cid, Lawrence Of Arabia, Casablanca,
Gone With The Wind, Dances With Wolves, Star Wars, to mention a few. And I really, really liked the work that Hans Zimmer did in writing the score of The Last Samurai. His music is for me most of the enjoyment of that film, very grandiose and dramatic and one of the best scores I've heard in a long time. He should at least have received an Oscar nomination for his work.

Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 09:55 AM by 4_Legs_Good
"Requiem for a Dream" by Clint Mansell
"The Lord of the Rings: Part One" by Leonard Rosenman (the Bakshi version, NOT the trite Howard Shore score for the Jackson movies)

For soundtracks I really liked the "Real Genius" soundtrack and "The Karate Kid". I'm sure there are a lot more too.

On Edit: How could I have forgotten the "Magnolia" score/soundtrack. Sheer genius through and through. Similar opinion for "Boogie Nights".

115. Not yet mentioned: Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
The soundtrack CD includes a varied song list--sure, Buffalo Springfield, the Airplane, the Yardbirds were part of the time. But so were Perry Como & Tom Jones.

And it includes a few spoken word bits by J Depp as the Good Doctor. Including the part about the rising wave that receded....

(& I like many already mentioned. Especially O Brother & LOTR.)

140. A Clockwork Orange in particular, & Stanley Kubrick films in general
I was in art school and a number of teachers assigned the movie for class. The theatre was right down the street and matinees were two bucks. Every time we wanted to cut class we'd say "gotta see Clockwork Orange," and a lot of times we actually did. I love the soundtrack, and I love the movie for introducing me to the work of Anthony Burgess, who became one of my favorite authors.
