The animated gifs and smileys don't move.

Well, if you are using mozilla or firefox there are settings to turn off gif animation. They can be off altogether, loop once or loop indefinitely. In Mozilla that would be under Privacy&Security -> Images
In firefox, settings are in different groupings and so forth--look around.

8. Do you use Zonealarm?

If so, there's a setting in there that turns off animated gifs by default.

It's in Privacy>Ad Blocking>Custom>animation
