7. The last two or three episodes of that were downers...
as everyone went their separate directions. The one with Faye finding out about her past, with that song "Call Me." Shivers. And Ed meeting her nutbag, Quixotic father.

The final episode with Spike was very upsetting, I was so sad. Ah well, it is sci-fi, anything could happen...

14. Which is in large part why I like Anime so much
They tell a story. There is an arc to them. They involve you in the characters and then they make them mean something to you.

Trigun is another good example of a story where they take you on a long arc. At first it seems like a silly show but slowly the subplot builds up until it wrenches your heart from your chest.

Give me Anime over the best of US network programming any day. Far more depth and substance to be found there.

I'm going with the NO only as a DU avatar it does not "perk" itself up well...in other words, kind of hard to make out.

But, if you like it. Got no problems.

I'm actually the last person to ask...mine suck.

21. I really LOVE Big-O
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 12:14 PM by SkipNewarkDE
My other big anime fans are The Big O. The writing is just wonderful. For the kiddies and action buffs, there is a giant robot fight each episode. But there is this whole other layer to it that is just the ultimate in existentialism. It concerns a city in which everyone has lost their memory, and yet some years later, their lives go on, as they proceed to try to make their own destinies. It is really interesting, thought provoking stuff.

My favorite short-form anime, that was only a very short number of episodes, was FLCL (Fooley Cooley). Absolutely enchanting, wonderful, wacky and weird, with a great theme song by The Pillows. This thing is a whole allegory for adolescence and puberty, with a young boy meeting an alien girl who wacks him on the head, and then periodically he gets these strange bulges on his forehead out of which things pop, like giant robots, and stuff. Just a wonderful poetic and great anime. Do NOT miss this.
