Poll question: Okay, in the spirit of 'equal time', who's the worst Repub Prez since 1900
So hard to decide.

Hmmm...... Dubya.

Note: I had to limit this to 10 choices, so I ommitted Gerald Ford because he wasn't elected to either the Presidency or the VP, and McKinley because he died in 1901, thereby having little effect on the 20th Century (but making quite a impact on Buffalo).

1. Not hard to decide at all.
Our current overlord takes it by several lengths. As much as I HATED the terrible regression of the Reagan years, Bush Minor is much, much worse. Hoover would be a close third after Ronnie, in my book.

2. I would have said Reagan, but...
...at least he was the unwitting inspiration for the best era of American Punk Rock. At least he gave us that.

Im interested in hearing 'why' from anyone who pics a president besides DimSon.

Like, why Hoover? "Dam it", I want to know!

6. Why Hoover?
"We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land." - HH, 1929

A couple of months later, the stock market crash and the Great Depression.

Less than a year after that, Smoot-Hawley, which only made things worse.

While I give him good-intentions props for the Revenue Act of 1932, too little too late. Thank god for FDR, and pray we see another like him SOON.

3. Harding, Reagan, the elder Bush...
... Nixon, Coolidge, Hoover, all were desperately bad in their own ways, but I think history will record that Bush the Younger will go down as the most perverse, corrupt, illogical, least intelligent and most ideologically driven of any modern president.

Ultimately, this man will be hated for many decades to come.

5. Warren Gamaliel Harding.
So corrupt that according to my History prof back at UW Marinette, dying in office was the best career move he ever made.

9. This is becoming a rout.
That's why I always eliminate Dubya from any of my worst President polls. He wins every one in a landslide.

Idiot King Bush - for obvious reasons...he is an amplification of the worst aspects of Ronald Reagan and completely devoid of Ronnie's communication skills.

Ronald Reagan - Simple-minded, black and white thinker who, along with Ironbox Thatcher helped turn the '80s into one giant bloodletting soirée.

Richard Nixon - Cambodia and Laos, and the fact that he was a paranoid, power-hungry criminal.

Herbert Hoover - A man who stood idly by during the worst economic crisis in the nation's history.

Poppy Bush - Tax-evading, blue-blooded weasel who like his son only got to the presidency through his Old Boy connections.

Calvin Coolidge - Silent Cal in name and in government. The man did fuck all while in office.

Warren G. Harding - One corrupt motherfucker

William Taft - He actually kept fighting the trusts after TR left office, which ensures his low position on this list. Plus, he was fucking huge.

Ike - More or less moderate in comparison to others in the party...something of a RINO...plus the whole WWII thing, which is a plus in my book.

Teddy Roosevelt - Clearly the least Republican of all listed.

12. One minor quibble.
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 12:41 AM by CubsFan1982
Coolidge said "the business of America is business", not Hoover. Hoover said "We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land."

And in Hoover's defense, he didn't exactly sit idly by and do nothing. True, in the first months after the crash, he stood back, expecting the economy to correct itself. When it became apparent that it would not, Hoover initiated several relief bills intended to bail out banks, and established the Reconstruction Finance Corporation, a federal agency whose sole purpose was to give loans to banks. Granted, in comparison to FDR, Hoover didn't do much, but he didn't exactly do nothing, either.

I can actually stand to look at pictures of all the other ones. Dubya, though... blech. His smirk makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork. :puke:
