In case you wonder what ever happened to Poison's Bret Michaels.
He's now a judge on the American Idol rip-off "Nashville Star." I watch it, because there's this one rockabilly contestant who's just awesome. Anyway...

Bret's a judge on the show, and it's just so funny to me how he morphed from hair-band frontman to country-show nobody judge. He wears a bandana with a cowboy hat on top of it, and tries to look like a country tough guy. What's even funnier than that is that, for some reason, the country music crowd seems to accept him...they must have never seen him perform in full make-up, big girlie hair, and spandex pants.

Bret now: Bret 1980s:

I wasn't a big Poison fan--saw them in concert, but thought their opener, Cinderella was much better--but it's fun to watch him grovel to the country crowd. If you haven't seen the show, you ought to just tune in tonight at 9:00 on USA for the finale. It's at least worth it to watch the rockabilly guy perform.

1. Every Rose has it's thorn.
It sounds like it was almost a country song.

2. I just thought of that as another cheesy rock-ballad slow-song from the...
1980s. There were SOOO many then.

8. Think about it though.
The more I listen to modern day "country" the more I think that it is the equivalent of 80's hair metal. And I think that some of those slower country ballads remind me of those hair-metal ballads.

4. He was on a couple of episodes of the Chris Isaak Show
What's even funnier, to me, is seeing Sebastian Bach of Skid Row on Gilmore Girls.

5. You are kidding.
Sebastian Bach was the most handsome rocker of the 1980s to me (besides Anthony Kiedis).

And he's stooped to sit-coms. :D

7. At least it's a well-written sitcom
Their scripts are an average of 30 pages longer than other hour-long programs because there's so much rapid-fire pop culture dialogue. :D

6. Not a fan myself, but ...
In the FWIW department ...

He's looked like that for a long time. The make-up and poofy hair thing was just another gimmick during a decade of gimmicks. They were trying to out-big-hair the big-hair bands and intentionally took the androgynous look to absurd levels.

As soon as they took off the make-up, Bret put on the hat. In fact, I think the one in this pic was the same one he wore in an interview several years ago.

10. It's the combination. Cowboy hat, country music show....
just seems to border on the ridiculous to me.

You should have seen him do "Don't Need Nothing But a Good Time" on the show last week with all of the country contestants. It was soooo pitiful.

He's sucking up bigtime to the Nashville crowd. I think it's funny.

(Oh, and as far as the 80s go, wasn't EVERYONE trying to out-glam everyone else?)
