Does anyone here spend time in a chat room?

I used to chat with Yahoo's messaging system, and really enjoyed meeting a few folks there and chatting. It got to the point, though, where I spent more time getting booted from the chat client by hackers, and I became worried about compromising my system to same idiots, so I decided it wasn't a good idea to spend much time there. I eventually stopped chatting altogether. I know there are better options for chat systems other than Yahoo. So, I'm curious if any of you participate in chat room discussions, and, if so, what messaging/chat clients you use?
