I cleaned out the refrigerator today
And found:
11 jars of jam/jelly (including 2 strawberry, 2 apple, 2 apple butter and 2 red plum)
3 jars of cocktail sauce
2 bottles of ketchup
and 1 unopened bottle of V8 that expired in 2003

I put my foot down with my dad, no jelly until all of that's used. (I do most of the grocery shopping)

My parents better be glad that I live here.

2. Most of this is my dad's fault
He's the only one that uses cocktail sauce and uses jelly the most (he love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches).

If he can't find something instantly after opening the door, he'll open a new jar and tell me to pick some up the next time I go grocery shopping.

9. ROFLMAO. Good Luck!
Parents, can't live with them, can't shoot them. I'm lucky to still have that aggravating, infuriating bane of my life that I call Dad.

11. Yeah, I know
And well, really, I do the shopping, but they pay for it, so it doesn't really matter.

12. It does matter.
I wasn't paying attention when my Mom was alive. My parents lived an hour away, and I was always finding excuses not to lose 3 or 4 hours out of my day off. Then she was gone. I wish I had that pain in the ass sunday drive back.

13. Nah it's not like that
I live here with them (yes I know I'm 24, but hey, it's free), so I get my share of my parents.

4. I cleaned mine, too!
I threw out two bags of carrots, an onion, a half a head of lettuce, four packages of lunchmeat, three packages of cheese, a bottle of teriyaki sauce, a jar of pickles, and three bottles of salad dressing.

Most of that was food that my husband bought for his lunches. I told him, if he insists on wasting food, from now on, to just buy the stuff, drive around to the back of the store and throw it in the dumpster. That way I don't have to mess with it. :eyes:

7. I threw out a lot of stuff
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 11:22 PM by tammywammy
Mostly stuff in jars that had been in there god knows how long.

What amazes me the most is that I have one day off a week, Sunday. My parents only work 4 days a week (sometimes my mom works 5). Okay, so on my ONE day off, I clean the refrigerator, do the dishes, go to Home Depot (to pick up a trimmer for my dad, b/c his was going on the fritz and I guess he didn't feel like driving there to get it himself), and the grocery story for stuff for dinner tonight along with my general don't do anything b/c it's my only day off. But in the 3 days they had off this weekend, they could do none of that.

5. Funny you posted this tonight...
For some reason, I had an uncontrollable craving for a bologna sandwich tonight, so I send hubby after bread and bologna (we don't eat too much of either as a general rule). The thing is that I think I need Miracle Whip for bologna sandwiches. We went into the fridge and found a MWhip dated 03/04 (like I said, I only use it for one thing - bologna).

So, I ended up making an on-the-fly MW substitute with regular mayo. Just dissolve some sugar or honey in apple cider vinegar, add the mayo, and whisk. Good enough! I had my sandwich and I was happy.

Based on tonight's issue, I doubt I'll ever buy MW again. :-)

8. Or just buy the really little jar
That's what I did when I lived by myself. I'd need mustard for certain things, but not everyday, so I bought the 8oz bottle.

6. We have that problem with veggies on a regular basis...
But we have an excuse. When only two people eat out of a fridge, and veggies don't come in smaller packages, what can you do? We can only eat so many carrots and so much celery.

Most of the time, what I throw away is leftovers, though.

Just out of curiosity, was all that stuff in the door? We keep that kind of stuff in the door so we don't lose track of it.

10. No it was everywhere
Jelly on two different shelves. One bottle of ketchup on a shelf and one in the door, the same with the cocktail sauce.
