3. yeah
its worth the 2 hours, particularly since its free. If you like Bowie era glam rock this is pretty fun - not a lot of plot.

4. eh
nothing to write home about. it's not awful, but it drags and overdoes the gay-lead-meant-to-shock-you angle just a wee tad. it's so forced.

but it has redeeming points. good music, eddie izzard, some of the acting

it's a mixed bag

8. The opening suggests
that aliens dropped Oscar Wilde on Earth, an interesting conceit at least. The rest of the film doesn't live up to the clever opening.

9. Velvet Goldmine
It was said that Bowie refused to sign off on any part of this movie. It was so him in his early years. Of course he may have plans to do his own film with his own music....that would be great since I have been a Bowiephile since the his career started. Old aren't I

It has nekkid Ewan in it. :) ALWAYS worth a look see. And I get all shivery over his rendition of "Gimme Danger" toward the end. Hubba.

11. blech
I hated it...

well hate is a bit too strong of a word...

the music was kinda... well, let's just say the tunes aren't as close to Bowie as they aspire to be...

it is Todd Haynes' weakest flick, imho... "Far from Heaven" is stellar

wanna see a kickass glam rock movie with killer music? Hedwig & the Angry Inch :bounce:

but you do get to see Ewan's willie for a split second... so it kinda justifies the 2+ hours

13. Oh sure
Especially for free. A little discombobulated, but still worth watching.

14. I'm late getting to your thread, Midwest Momma, but --
-- I liked the film a lot.

If you're having a bunch of Wayne Newton fans over this evening, don't watch it.

If you like David Bowie, for instance, do watch it.

15. If you liked this movie...
...try to find a copy of Shooting To Kill by Christine Vashon (the film's producer). It includes a diary of the production, all the way from when New Line committed for funding and then backed out just before shooting was to start, to when the lab screwed up the splices on the A & B rolls (meaning that there was a frame jump at every cut in the final print) -- it seems like it was more chaotic than the usual indie film (including mine).

19. don't watch it in the middle of the night
because by the end you will be totally befuddled. It is fun camp, but does go on a bit. Probably better if you are under the influence of something...
