Woof, woof, woof!

I'm a proud UGA grad and Georgia Bullog.

Uga V had been perhaps the most well known of all the Bulldog mascots highlighted by his appearance on the cover of the April 28, 1997, Sports Illustrated which declared him the nation's best college mascot. Rocketed to stardom, he also appeared in Clint Eastwood's "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil" -- filmed in his hometown of Savannah, Ga. Uga V also presided over Georgia's most successful collective sporting effort in department history as the Bulldogs claimed four NCAA team titles during the 1998-99 season -- women's swimming and diving, women's gymnastics, men's tennis and men's golf -- and placed second in the Sears Cup race. He died on Nov. 22, 1999, just over two months after his retirement.

Uga strolls through Forsyth Park with Kevin Spacey, left, and John Cusack during filming of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" last summer.

Above Uga lunges at Auburn's Robert Baker in Georgia's record-setting four-overtime victory in 1996.

8. Hey, CottonBear...do you know the Ernest & Bubba joke about Uga?
Ernest and Bubba were at a UGA football game when Uga was led onto the sidelines. He lay down and proceeded to lick himself where male dogs are wont to do. Bubba nudged Ernest and said, "Lookee yonder, Ernest. Damn, I wish I could do that!" And Ernest replied, "Why, Bubba, that dog would biiiite youuuu!" (Paraphrased from an old Lewis Grizzard joke.)

12. LOL! I hadn't heard that one.
They're rereunning Grizzard columns in the local paper this week. he started out writing for the old Athens Daily News. Very funny stuff.

I saw UGA V at a game a few years ago. I had seats right on the first row near the endzone where the GA teams runs onto the field. Vince Dooley and UGA were about 50' feet away from us. Damn good dawg!

11. I graduated in the late 80s with a BLA
from the School of Environmental Design. Do you live in Athens? I live here. There are several other Athens area DUers around. We should organize a DU meetup at the Globe. The Human Right Festival is Sat. and Sun. downtown at College Square. I've been going since 1982. Check it out if you've never gone. No corporate sponsorship and all proceeds go to a local charity or non profit.

Go Dawgs!

7. "dawg" but I hypocritically say "fahg" for "fog"
"hahg" for "hog" etc. I just can't BRING myself to say "dahg," though. P.S.: "caught" is pronounced "cawght," not "caht." "caht" is what a Bostonian says for "cart." P.P.S.: I just LOVE accents!

18. Incredibly, I can out-geek you on this one.
Re: caught.

I'm one of those crazy Northeasterners that can hear the difference between "caught" and "cot." Honestly, they're different...I'M NOT CRAZY!

P.S. The old joke for us: from an outsider, "Say park the car in Harvard Yard! Say park the car in Harvard Yard!" "Whadda yoo, retahded?"

(Sorry. I didn't say it was a good joke. Or nice. But old, and ours.)

16. Dwog or dowug. Would that be Pittsburghian?
I say it more like dahg, unless I'm singing bluegrass or hillbilly songs to my Daizie dawg.

17. Dwog? Dawg?
Dude, I grew up in the New England. No such word as dwog.

And "dawg" is the mascot for the Udub.

My pooch is a dog. Rhymes with log.

Go Dawgs!
