Will the new Pope admit to the existance of dinosaurs?
Pope John Paul was very progressive in admitting that the earth was round(1988) AND revolved around the sun(1992).

Will Benedict be as forward thinking?

Are the large bones being pulled from the earth just the work of Satan? (because as we all know the earth is only 6000 years old)

"Enquiring minds want to know!"

1. God I hope so. I hope we didn't just land in the
15th century.

4. The RC Church long-ago embraced evolution, smartass.
Stated that it was the explanation of the means by which Godd accomplished creation. Catholics are not biblical literalists, and have no problem with seeing the creation myths as just that, myths used to explain what was then inexplicable.

6. Don't get Catholics and loony fundies confused
Though these points were only formally accepted recently does not mean that the converse was believed beforehand.

Clement of Alexandria (c.150-c.220) suggested that the world was considerably older than 6000 years (or rather 4000 years as it would have been then).

Augustine (whom many would consider the father of Theology) also rejected the fundy's notion of six 24 hour days (or rather he didn't need to reject it) - see http://www.asa3.org/ASA/topics/Bible-Science/PSCF3-88Young.html

7. Where can one learn more about Clement of Alexandria?
He keeps popping up as a very enlightened guy and I'd like to learn a lot more...

9. Bishop Ussher came up with 4004 BC as the day of Creation.
He was Church of Ireland, not Catholic.

The Romans came to terms with science some time ago.....

8. When I first read your subject line, I laughed, assuming that
you were joking. Then, as I thought about it, I decided that you were serious, the Pope might not acknowledge the existence of pre-historic animals such as dinosaurs. What is happening to the human race?

I went to a funeral yesterday that had a heavily armed guard at the door of the church as the mourners filed in. Why was he there?
The main topic of the funeral was about fear, not just fear of natural death, but all sorts of terrorists acts and things like that.

We are turning into field mice.

10. The less-evolved Protestants have problems with Evolution.

The Catholics had problems with Galileo, etc. But they got over them.

Catholic universities offer science degrees (as well as basketball teams).

11. I believe the Catholic Church
embraces the theory of evolution. I don't see the new pope changing this, but you never know, I guess.
