Forget Jesus, I Strive To Live My Life More Like Bob Marley Every Day!
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 09:22 AM by DistressedAmerican
I would take Bob as a spiritual leader over Jesus any day!

While Jesus the man had some great things to say, the Son of God stuff and the organized religion that followed really screwed that up.

Bob Marley on the other hand, did not claim divinity. He was just a prophet of peace and justice. His message hasn't been co-opted by the ruling elites to control the people and noone goes to war in his name. Besides, when I tithe to Bob I get a CD, or a T-shirt or something tangible in return!

Then there is ganja. Screw water into wine. A fat Bob spliff beats that for a miracle in MY book any day!

Overall, I'd say I'll try to follow the teachings of Bob and live my life in a manner HE prescribed. Better for the whole world I think!

1. Um, I don't think he treated women too well.
Of course, that's pretty typical for musical/rock stars.

3. Admitedly, He Did Get Around. However, It Wasn't Like He Was Abusive

Come on we're not talking about Ike Turner here!

Rita didn't seem too put off by his various women. I'd say that is her call. She stuck with him. Good must have outweighed the bad...

9. I think that's just Jamaican culture.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the Jamaican folks I've known and spoken to made it sound like that is how the gender rolls work in that culture.

Guy's just kinda drift and wander and do their thing and the moms raise the family.

5. My hero!
Man, do I miss Bob Marley. He was a great, spiritual, musical, and political leader.

In the early seventies, Marley was asked what he thought about the fact that reggae music was starting to enjoy huge popularity in the U.S.

Marleys reply: "Rasta not de twist, mon!"

14. He used his position to try to stem political violence in his country
Despite considerable risk to himself (he himself had been shot), he obliged two warring politicians to shake hands before all of Jamaica at the One Love Peace Concert of 1978. He was the only person in that country with the stature to do this, and he rose to the occasion.
