4. Boing!
I bought my first PC, an Acer, in 93, and I think I paid $1,200. So things changed fast. No wonder I wasn't even vaguely interested in a PC before then.

5. We had one of these
I took Basic in 1978 and learned a few things. I was indulging in other things back then and learning programming was a little too far out for me. I did come up with some pretty funky things on this thing though.

It took me many years later before I would get back into computers.

I was way behind on the computer technology. Funny thing is..the man who invented the first computer has the same name as I do.

Oh, and welcome to DU.

Followed by more than 50 others, all sorts of makes/models

Edit: BTW, the 400 is still going strong. A friend of mine that owns a photo lab over in Italy, still uses it daily in the lab (loves that chemical-resistant monopanel keyboard)

10. My first was the old Compaq Presario with built in Monitor
It was a fricking box - all one unit (and a tiny monitor for that). I had just gotten a discover card and I saw they had this computer on sale which was normally $1200 for $999. What a piece of crap.

I've made up for all the expensive computers since my last 3 I've paid a total of $650 for all of them. Computers are like cars - they become out-date and depreciated as soon as you drive them of the lot

17. Here's Mine - the cheapest computer ever . . .

Sweet Commodore VIC 20!

It didn't even have a floppy drive - it had a separate cassette deck. I do remember using it to write music and even wrote a few "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories on it though. I think it cost me $86 bucks of lawn mowing money.

And yes, that is Bill Shatner
