I found my first grey hair today ...
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 02:51 AM by CarolinaPeridot
My point : I am only 24 years old .

I found it as I was looking at my hair up close in the mirror during my lunch break at work . I thought maybe it was a piece of lint or something but indeed , its growing out of my head . This is funny . I always said I wanted to have long grey hair when I was old but I don't want it just yet ;)

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 03:28 AM by CarolinaPeridot
I was laughing the entire time . Because it was about a 1 1/2 since I saw him . And when I got his first phone call after he got to Iraq , I was giddy and hyper the entire time . Those are the signs that let each other know how much you really adore that person .

9. Some Friends showed me something they'd found in their car...
it was a long fine white string looking thing. It appeared to be monofilament fishing line at first glance. It was one of my stray beard hairs about twenty inches long.

14. LOL !
Honestly one of those scared me when I was 15 . I remember it was a snow day and I was out of school . Snow was on the ground everywhere . It was one of those bright days where if you look at the sun and then the snow , you are like blind for a couple of seconds . Well I did that ( looked at the sun and the snow , never said I was a bright kid LOL ) and I looked in front of me and I saw something coming towards me . I was like " What in the world is that ! " ( ok so I cursed ) and I could not make out what it was . It was a bunny hopping towards where I was . It came out of nowhere . It scared me LOL . Silly rabbit ;)

And its actually not a bad thing . I find it cool . Of course I am gonna pluck it out as soon as I show my family . ( yeah I know you might ask if its not bad , why you gonna pluck it LOL ) Its not even grey its " White " . Maybe I am turning into " CarolinaPeridot The White / Wise " ala Gandalf ... or maybe I have been reading too much fantasy literature lately .

....its normally not my nature. Just good-fun-ribbing....

Actually, though it doesn't apply to you, one of my wife's friends has premature salt and pepper grey hair and started getting it in her early thirties. By her late 30's, it was more salt than pepper. Its very thick, straight, and pretty. She has to fight guys off with a baseball bat...

Something about red hair and pigment, and you get a few gray hairs. But they always seem thicker than a regular hair. weird.

28. Yeah my grandmother used to dye her hair blonde to cover her grey .
And if it was in between times for her to color her hair , the grey would start to show and I cleary remember us grandkids with hair coloring sticks trying to cover the grey . This was in the mid 1990's lmao . Now she does not color her hair anymore which I think is cool .

30. my mother did it right up until she died
it looked awfully strange I must admit. Sometimes it was green, sometimes purple, sometimes very dark brown. It looks unnatural on an aged person be it man or woman.

34. The Striped-Gray Pig
I'll be 47 in a few days, but I have consistently looked younger. Men and women from both sides of my family have had this happy genetic trait, and I am grateful for it. Part of the inheritence has been a resistance to balding, and to graying before 70-80 years of age.

But the past few years have been very tough for me, including a long episode of unemployment, illness, and turmoil. It came to a peak last summer and autumn when I took care of my grandmother as she was dying. We had been very close, so I didn't give a second thought that the job had largely fallen to me and my mother. I hooked up a baby monitor and was on call 24/7, seldom leaving the house except to do food shopping.

On October 27th, she passed away. My mother, my uncle (her son), and I were there with her as her heart could no longer oxygenate the blood in her dying body. I suppose it was peaceful for her, but there's no way to really know.

Two weeks after the funeral, a nasty strep infection set in and hasn't really let up until this week, when the warm weather finally returned.

During this time, I noticed that I was developing a lot of gray hairs, something I thought was an old folk tale. But the real coup de grace came when I indulged my "junior scientist" streak and examined some of them under a strong light. They were not completely gray. Instead, they were my normal dark blonde color with a broad section of gray in the middle. Under a magnifier, I could even see how the texture had changed -- and changed back.

Measuring the length of the hair and its striped zones, an assuming a hair growth rate of 1 mm per day, the gray zones corresponded to mid-August to mid-January, when I started taking antibiotics (which did little for me, I thought, except make me gain weight) for the infection.

I do have some all-gray hairs, too, but their number is decreasing. But it's the most amazing thing.

in my pubs...I kid you not. It was like an episode from 'Sex In The City'. I was devastated. Now I wear all my grey hairs as badges of honor. I hope I go grey as Emmylou Harris has...her hair is beautiful.
