where the jobs suck. Most telemarketing jobs hire you on the spot, you get one to three days of paid orientation and you can wear anything you frigging want to work.

Most telemarketers that call you hate their job.

but the rest of your post didn't describe my 2&1/2 years at MBNA. It took 4 interviews to get the 7.50/hr part-time position (I've been told it's more for full time). We had a 2 week orientation and had to dress in business attire except for the occaisional dress down day to raise money for some charity.

11. MBNA scared the crap out of me.

I thought about working for them when I lived in Portland. I didn't have the stomach for it. And forget the business attire stuff. My husband worked for some mortgage company in Florida where they had to dress up and he was on the second shift 3-11 pm. If you were late for work, your pays dropeed from $10 per hour to your hire rate at $9 per hour and you had to "be good" until they determined you deserved to go back to $10.

You know how when you move to a new place, the first call you get is from Sgt. Brzwhmrzrw (always mumbled) from the State Police or from the Patrolman's Benevolent Society or some shit for poor widders and orafans? They always have big booming voices and imply very strongly that they're laying down their lives for your worthless ass you're a cop-killer if you don't donate.

I've always known they were fakes, but one day I was at my bank in Tampa and in the strip mall next door, all these guys with bad combovers and used-car salesman eyes come pouring out on smoke break. Just total losers in loud checked jackets with cowboy boots and 70s porn-star sideburns. I had to go to the cleaner right next to them, so I made a point of checking out the door they had come out of. Sure enough, it had some title on it like "State of Florida Uniformed Officer Fundraising Association" or some shit. From what I hear, the cops get about 8 percent of what's raised or even less, but figure it's free money, so what the fuck.
