Is this romantic? Am I being high-maintenance?
So I was flirting with progdad, and said something like: "You know...you could have done better than me..."

His response: "I didn't want to do better."

Wouldn't the correct response have been: "No way, baby! There's no one better than you!"

Or am I just being high-maintenance again?

23. I think it is kind of sweet--
"I didn't want to do better."

I see a lot of people who are always looking for the BBD (Bigger, Better Deal). they want someone richer or younger or better looking--so they are never satisfied with who they are with--they always keep an eye out for the BBD. If they find a BBD they will dump whoever they are with for the BBD.

It is very wonderful to be so content in your relationship that you are not interested in anyone else--even if they are better.

And it is more honest than saying that you are the greatest possible, most perfect person in the world. We all know that there is always someone out there who is better looking, or younger, or has more money--the key is --being so happy with who you are with that you are not interested in trading--even if you could trade up.

It is a very beautiful sentiment, very eloquently expressed. I understand where this man is coming from.

32. no no no--
you are obviously a sweet and sensitive woman--the thing is that men aren't always obvious about the things that they say. Sometimes you have to read between the lines a little bit. It is really hard for us to explain ourselves sometimes.....especially when we are trying to impress a beautiful woman like you.

42. thank you for appreciating me.
I have observed that that is the number one way to get into a man's heart--just appreciate what he does (or tries to do) for you.

I have several wonderful women who influence life--my grandmother, my mother, two sisters, and a lovely girlfriend--plus lots of female friends.

They have taught me to appreciate women, I feel that the women in my life do so much and work so hard to take care of everyone and in return they ask for so little in return. I try to do everything in my power to make their lives easier and happier. When they are appreciative of my efforts--that is all I need to be happy.

Half Moon Bay---just a little out of San Francisco.

But, I do occasionally go down to Southern California--I have a brother who lives in Carlsbad (near LegoLand).

I love LA--I like going down to the art museums, my favorite is the Getty. I am planning to go down sometime this summer (King Tut exhibit is coming to LA and I really want to see it). Maybe if I am lucky, I can make my trip coincide with a DU get-together.

39. Hi, progmom, He doesn't sound like the kind of guy who would be
particularly romantic...Perhaps he is the type of guy who plainly and maybe hurridly speaks his mind w/o too much thought. Only you would know if that's the case with him...I'm sure he means to tell you that he loves you, and that you make him very happy...You suit him down to his toenails...

I think that we women tend to have a different view of what men who love us should say. Maybe we've been spoiled by the romantic novels or movies of our youth...I don't know. He sounds like a great guy who loves you.

High maintenance? Nah...

it's awful to be criticized over stuff like this. does this make me look fat? how many variations of ambush-conversation starters are there?

It sounds like one of those sentiments which just came out wrong - but yes you're right the perfect response is 'no body's better than you'.

He was definitely trying to 'you sure are the girl for me and I couldn't want anything else' but the sentiment got a wee bit mangled.

You should only put him in the dog-house for about a week or so, not some serious punishment.
