computer help please -
i'm buying a new PC this w/e.

i got some data on this one i want to put on the new one, especially my IE faves list. what is the best way to go about this? i'd do it the easy way and burn it on a CD, but my burner's crapped out. (part of the reason for a new PC.)

2. Quick and dirty, but it will work - Email the stuff to yourself!
Email it out on one PC, check your email on the other!

I'd use zip or another compression program to package multiple files, or at the very least make multiple attachments to messages.

I'd keep the attachment size below 2 megs, however, to get through under your email server's size limit.

4. In IE, go to File -> Import and Export
Follow wizard to export favorites... It's an HTML file. Email that to yourself. Them follow same steps to import on new PC.

This article explains how to use it.

Good luck, and enjoy your new computer!

8. All good advice so far, however...
(assuming new machine is XP)...

if you have a lot of data (many megs or gigs) to move and don't want to keep emailing it to yourself, buy a "null modem serial cable", hook it up to each machine and use the XP "file transfer wizard" to move as much data as you want. Trust me...it is not hard to do and it works very well. The cable should only run you a few bucks at Radioshack.

10. thanks. a cable will be a small expense for the convenience
looks so simple even a looney lefty like me, barely able to boot up, can do it.
