ACK!

I can't find the damn things! I went ahead and filled out my 1040A and my state form (saved my W-2s from a PDF from a website our payroll dept. uses...can't print...no ink for my printer.)

I guess I'll just file the darn returns and get another copy of my W-2s from work on Monday. Although, a more likely scenario is I'll find the W-2s as soon as I get back from the post office.

1. file for an extension, immediately
the penalties for not filing on time are worse if you don't.

4. Well, I was going to file...just not including the W-2s
I remember one time, years ago, I apparently didn't put in one of the forms. I think it was for the state. Just got a letter that I didn't include them so I sent them a copy.

2. E- filing
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 05:10 PM by daydreamer
is the way to go. Then you don't need W-2 copies. Everything is electronic. Go to www.taxact.com. I am submitting my e file today.

7. Turbotax and HRBlock had a free offer for federal
...then they stuck it to ya on the charge for state. Not sure if time ran out on it, or if it is still free....I did all of the taxes for my relatives early, for a change.

6. There's my best friend!
I don't think I've filed my return on April 15 for, um, almost ten years now.

It's my business taxes that take forever, not my personal ones. But they're intertwined, so...

8. Form 4868 is definitely MY friend.
Every year I promise myself that I'll get organized and get my taxes done by April 15, and almost every year I end up with my old pal, Form 4868....

10. I just dropped off my taxes, after finding the local post office closed
but with a handy sign indicating which nearby towns will be open for extended hours. Some till midnight.

Yet, I'm also inclined to believe that the IRS has better things to do than punish people for getting their taxes out a day late, I mean there's gotta be thousands of people that are late. That's how rackets work.
