I've come to the conclusion (re. Matrix Reloaded)
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 11:00 PM by khephra
That you need a basic understanding of Gnosticism to "get" the last film.

Spolier: The Architect is the Demiurge. The matrix is within the Black Iron Prison, thus the true reality is beyond what the Demiurge can create.

I got it. I wonder who else here did.

1. "Wove, twue wove"
"is a dweam, wivin a dweam..."

I'll see it when it comes out on DVD -- but I suspect I already know the ending.

2. I have no clue what you just wrote about
but I have a pretty good idea of what the whole story is about. All anyone has to do is listen to the architects words.

3. In gnostic christianty
There is one true god, but due to problems beyond the scope of a post, he/it/she allows a lesser god to create a reality of their own.

This lesser god is the Demiurge and the creator of our universe.

7. ahhh, thanks
pretty much what I think is the "key" to the story as well.

How can an artificial mind know the difference between reality and and virtuality?

11. that's one of the problems with the Demiurge
We have not fallen, our "god" had fallen. There is a reality beyond it all but a blind god controls our vision.

5. millions of people think they got it....
you won't know for another month, really.

I don't read into the movies that much, i just think both worlds are in the matrix.

Lemme ask you and other du'ers: What are you looking forward to most: LOTR: ROTK or Revolutions?

LOTR for me :) Only reason I'm looking forward to Revolutions is so that it can all be over, all the hype and speculation, I didn't enjoy the last film.

because I think the over done special FX have butchered what could have been the wonderful story of the Matrix.

10. It's supposed to look cgi
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 11:18 PM by khephra
It's a cgi world....everything is cast with green.

sigh...

I guess I like the moral ambiguity of the Matrix to the Black and White/Beauty= good/Ugly=bad duality of Tolkien.

12. I get that point as well
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 11:25 PM by Uzybone
but Id rather sink deep in the story than watch "The One" fight 150 guys for 10 minutes. All the fight scenes went on a tad too long for my taste. Then again its a minor complaint. But after watching the animated stories on the Animatrix, I expected the movie to focus more on the "moral ambiguity of the Matrix" and less on the Special FX.

on edit: and I also realize the vast majority of movie goers appreciated those scenes, so I know why they were over-emphasized.

14. You're all wrong...
The story takes place in the future, and Neo's friends have "kidnapped" him and put him into a virtual reality simulator where everything unfolds like it has to make him think he's the One. At the end of the 3rd movie, he'll think he'll have solved the entire Matrix problem and open a door to a darkened room where he thinks the ultimate architect (or whatever) is. He'll flip on the light, and virtual reality simulations of all his friends will be there to yell "Surprise!" and then sing happy birthday to him and reveal to him that everything he's just experienced was just to get him out of the way so they could plan his birthday.

The last line of the movie will be Neo saying, "Whoa."

15. since your being funny
a review I read said the Rave scene in Reloaded resembled what they would expect if Christina Aguilera did her "Dirty" video on the set of Fraggle Rock. That line still has me laughing.

17. Saw it on video for the first time
just yesterday and for a few minutes after the end it seemed maybe we picked up the wrong movie at the video store. It was every bit as good as the first film. So what are the main complaints about reloaded? It was an enjoyable two hours entertainment. As far as what the film means what is wrong with the concept as put forth in the film ? It seems as believable as most science fiction movie. Why can't the architect be yet another program trying to keep the humans from taking back over the world and shutting the A.I. machines off.

I really liked the movie. Apart from the few complaints I already listed, I really liked it. I cant wait for Revolutions. I just thought it could have been better.

hmm.. Keanu Reeves could probably manage that with no real difficulty. Possibly.
