need some advice on purchasing a cable modem w/ router
i'm looking for a cable modem since i'm tired of renting one. i'd like one that comes with a built in router for 3 systems. i currently use my pc as a NAT router, using extra net cards to share the connection.

any suggestions?
thanks!

4. I would highly recommend
adaware from the below company.

http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Also a firewall which I have found out to be extremely effective at:

http://www.zonealarm.com

In addition you can search for a download for spywareblaster.com at:

http://www.google.com

It was unbelieveable what was going on on my computer.Coolsavings.com was using my computer as a server to send emails everywhere.

I encourage everyone to download this software and run it. You can set up adaware to run at start up and quarantine suspected spyware files.

5. Get a Linksys router
and Zonealarm Firewall. Linksys is the best router out there in the $100.00 market.

7. Why use a S/W firewall when the LinkSys does it for you.
I just block all inbound connections at the FW and don't need to worry about closing individual ports on the PC and stealthing them.

6. I'm a big LinkSys fan ... but they don't have a combo box
Instead, I use the Comcast cable modem with a four-port 802.11b WAP behind it. The WAP acts as a firewall and DHCP server, NAT'ing the addresses behind it. For systems that will reach, I hard-wire to the back of the router with CAT-5 patch cords, and then use WiFi for the rest of the computers in my house.

The only problem I face is when I VPN back into work ... we enforce a single-tunnel connection which means my laptop then can't see my networked laser printer. If I want to print, I need to disable the VPN tunnel, print, then re-enable.
