What song are you addicted to right now?
Ok, I am soooooo addicted to Marley's Waiting In Vain now, I love this song, it could make me cry if I wanted to.
Song really means a lot because it gets me thinking ya know :).
1, 2, 3:

I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love.
From the very first time I rest my eyes on you, girl,
My heart says follow t’rough.
But I know, now, that I’m way down on your line,
But the waitin’ feel is fine:
So don’t treat me like a puppet on a string,
’cause I know I have to do my thing.
Don’t talk to me as if you think I’m dumb;
I wanna know when you’re gonna come - soon.
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love,
’cause if summer is here,
I’m still waiting there;
Winter is here,
And I’m still waiting there.
---
/guitar solo/
---
Like I said:
It’s been three years since I’m knockin’ on your door,
And I still can knock some more:
Ooh girl, ooh girl, is it feasible?
I wanna know now, for I to knock some more.
Ya see, in life I know there’s lots of grief,
But your love is my relief:
Tears in my eyes burn - tears in my eyes burn
While I’m waiting - while I’m waiting for my turn,
See!

I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love;
I don’t wanna wait in vain for your love, oh!
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna wait in vain.
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna wait in vain.
No, I don’t wanna (I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna wait in vain) -
No I - no I (I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t
Wanna - I don’t wanna wait in vain) -
No, no-no, i, no, I (I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna wait in vain) -
It’s your love that I’m waiting on (I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna wait in vain);
It’s me love that you’re running from.
It’s jah love that I’m waiting on (I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna -
I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna - I don’t wanna wait in vain);
It’s me love that you’re running from.

1. Velvet Revolver - Fall to Pieces
t's been a long year
Since you've been gone
I've been alone here
I've grown old
I fall to pieces, I'm falling
Fell to pieces and I'm still falling

Every time I'm falling down
All alone I fall to pieces

I keep a journal of memories
I'm feeling lonely, I can't breathe
I fall to pieces, I'm falling
Fell to pieces and I'm still falling

All the years I've tried
With more to go
Will the memories die
I'm waiting
Will I find you
Can I find you
We're falling down
I'm falling

Every time I’m falling down
All alone I fall to pieces
Every time I’m falling down
All alone I fall to pieces
Every time I’m falling down
All alone I fall to pieces
Every time I’m falling down
All alone I fall to pieces

2. I am enthralled by an old Pink Floyd song from 'Meddle' ...
Fearless ....

It has such a wonderful feel and pace ... basically an acoustic guitar piece, but with electric accents and a song-length crescendo, building with more power as the song progresses ...

Fearless

You say the hill's too steep to climb
Climb it.
You say you'd like to see me try
Climbing.
You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll climb
That hill in my own way.
Just wait a while for the right day.
And as I rise above the treelines and the clouds
I look down, hearing the sound of the things you've said today.

Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
Smiling.
Mercilessly the magistrate turns 'round
Frowning.

And who's the fool who wears the crown?
You go down
In your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow
You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

3. Not a single song
It's a C.D. with a reconstruction of Easter Day Mass as it would have been in S. Mark's Venice c.1600.

There is a gorgeous working together of renaissance (e.g. a Mass setting by Lassus), with the then new music of Gabrieli et al., and plainchant (which was already ancient in 1600) - it was recorded in a perfectly reverberant space. It sets my little heart beating.

10. I normally fall asleep to Bach organ works
I can't remember which ones are in the C.D. player at the moment - it tends to be a case of grab one at random - sometimes stray as far as Buxtehude, whilst I adore 20th C. organ works they tend not to be very relaxing.

The other big Bach thing for me are the 'cello suites. Apart from the fact that I find the sound of a 'cello practically orgasmic, they are stunning gorgeous 'warm' pieces.

I dance to it in my kitchen every time it comes on the radio.

Before that it was "Persuasion" by Richard and Teddy Thompson.

It's really moving.

Love to slink to "Rock and or Roll" also.

5. Bang the Drum Slowly by Emmylou Harris
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 03:43 PM by Heaven and Earth
A tribute to her late father. Puts me in tears if I let it.

Bang the Drum Slowly by Emmylou Harris

I meant to ask you how to fix that car
I always meant to ask you about the war
And what you saw across a bridge too far
Did it leave a scar

Or how you navigated wings of fire and steel
Up where heaven had no more secrets to conceal
And still you found the ground beneath your wheels
How did it feel

Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end

I meant to ask you how when everything seemed lost
And your fate was in a game of dice they tossed
There was still that line that you would never cross
At any cost

I meant to ask you how you lived what you believed
With nothing but your heart up your sleeve
And if you ever really were deceived
By the likes of me

Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end

Gone now is the day and gone the sun
There is peace tonight all over Arlington
But the songs of my life will still be sung
By the light of the moon you hung

I meant to ask you how to plow that field
I meant to bring you water from the well
And be the one beside you when you fell
Could you tell

Bang the drum slowly play the pipe lowly
To dust be returning from dust we begin
Bang the drum slowly I'll speak of things holy
Above and below me world without end

I'm addicted to Annie Waits from the Rockin the suburbs album. No point in posting the lyrics as they pale in comparison to what he does with production and arrangement on this tune. I love it!

8. I've been fawning over the entire catalogue of The Briefs
But in particular, this song.

"Ain't It The Truth?"

Outside the walls a curtain calls
i cant believe we're here at all
what you see i do believe
i got no place, no place to bleed
ive got nothing left, ive got nothing right
ive got no place to sleep tonite,
cuz what you see is what you get
i dont want your sympathy yet

Aint it the truth
aint it the truth that hurts
theres no excuse
and it could only get worse

Things in this world are hard to face
i must agree i hate this place
the cover ups have all been shown
we pay no mind, dont want to know
we dont hear a word, we dont need to think
we dont want no trouble dont change a thing
cuz lifes much better when you close your eyes
But i cant live in your disguise

Aint it the truth
Aint it the truth that hurts
Theres no excuse
and it will only get worse, and worse, and worse...

So all the morons stand in lines
we turn our cheeks and eat the lies
the tv news is nice and dull
the networks keep us comfortable
leave it alone, theres nothing wrong
shows over folks so just move along
and in the end we'll wonder why
then we'll count to ten and say good bye

Aint it the truth
Aint it the truth that hurts
theres no excuse
Aint it the truth that always hurts
Aint it the truth...etc...

Just a great, great song.

13. Never Say Goodbye, by Bob Dylan, for sentimental reasons...
About ten years ago I discovered three things simultaniously...Bob Dylan, art, and women.

This song, for some reason always brings me back.

Twilight on the frozen lake
North wind about to break
On footprints in the snow
Silence down below.

You're beautiful beyond words
You're beautiful to me
You can make me cry
Never say goodbye.

Time is all I have to give
You can have it if you choose
With me you can live
Never say goodbye.

My dreams are made of iron and steel
With a big bouquet
Of roses hanging down
From the heavens to the ground.

The crashing waves roll over me
As I stand upon the sand
Wait for you to come
And grab hold of my hand.

Oh, baby, baby, baby blue
You'll change your last name, too
You've turned your hair to brown
Love to see it hangin' down.

18. "Cardboard Empire" by the Guess Who
I have liked this song a lot since I discovered it on The Guess Who Anthology when I bought it a year or so back. It's originally from their album #10 which was finally released on CD for the first time ever a few months back.

I have no idea what most of the lyrics mean, but I think they're kinda cool. Sounds vaguely like a protest song of the political system... but then again, not...

"Carboard Empire" (Bill Wallace- Kurt Winter)

Cardboard empire would you crumble to the ground
As we watched by
Shipping magnate are you stranded on the ground
With no dog to fly...
Round the table sat the kings of circumstance
The puppeteer would pull his strings
And we would sing and dance
As the cardboard empire fell

Stone Age Neros sat behind their desks of steel
Trading paper clips
Of our empire there was nothing left untouched
But potato chips
We sat down at the banquet and the jester danced a reel
The gladiator drew his sword, we knew we were the meal
As the cardboard empire fell

Who are the people, who are the people
Who are the people that you think you are?

32. Hey, their first album was REALLY good.
Back in 1997 or so, they took themselves seriously, were a lot more creative, and had a real good thing going. "My Own Prison" was the only good album they ever made, and it was a pretty good one too. I was a high school freshman when they first came out, and I thought they were going to be the next big thing. Then "Human Clay" came out, and that all fell by the wayside. I first heard their song "Higher" on the radio in 1999, and I said to myself, "What have they DONE to themselves??"

Get the album "My Own Prison". You'll be AMAZED at what it's like. It's Creed, but it's really GOOD Creed.

In your mind you have abilities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you

We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants and interplanetary ultra-emissaries

We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you

We are your friends

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, quite extraordinary craft

Please come in peace we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come we beg you
Please interstellar policemen
Won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you

With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes
You concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare World Contact Day

Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

Ahhh

Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants of interplanetary, most extraordinary craft

44. "4 Hours Out" by Richmond Fontaine
My "cry in my beer" song, from my favorite band.

Four Hours Out

4 hours out, but I can't go back there
To A-Frames and quick build strip malls
And those panelled walls
Will become a distillery again under everyone's focus

13 cities, 7 years
Always uncertain, still unclear
It's a never ending haul of movement
Where nothing appeared right to me
It was barely in focus at all

4 hours out
Maybe my hair and blood will be against the
windshield
But I don't think I could get there either
And the people there will be the same
Knowing I couldn't make it alone
That I couldn't make it away
A-Frames will rise and the bricks will fall
But it'll be the same
Because I'm always the same

13 cities, 7 years
Always uncertain, still unclear
A never-ending haul of movement
Where nothing appeared except
13 cities, 7 years
