Calling all Ipod users! I want some advice!
I'm about to join your ranks.

I'm going to be getting an Ipod in a week or so.

Now, from what I understand, setting up an Ipod is a somewhat time-consuming process. Is there anything I can be doing now, to get ready for my bundle of joy? Anything that will speed up the process of being able to use it, once it's in my hot little hands?

Anything else I should know, as a soon to be Ipod owner?

2. Time-consuming?
It's a matter of minutes.

I would load iTunes on your computer first, then plug in the iPod. The software guides you through the whole process.

5. Can I get iTunes now? Before I have the iPod?
And if so, can I start putting my CD collection into it?

I have bazillions of cds, but very few of them are stored in my hard drive right now. And of course none of them are in iTunes.

7. Hmmm...not sure.
I loaded my iTunes with the cd I got with the iPod.

You might check the apple site.

Oh, the files that are on your hard drive will be automatically converted to the apple file system, if you like.

11. That's cool. So I can just keep putting them into Windows media for now?
And then they'll magically convert at the proper time?

(you can tell I'm not very computer literate, I don't even know what mp3 is) :dunce:

20. You might need to take the music that's already on your computer
and drag it into iTunes. Just select what you want and drag it into the library. :hi: :loveya:  :pals: :woohoo: :applause:

3. I thought it was a pretty easy setup.
Just plug it into your computer and it automatically sucks up whatever you've got in iTunes. Nothing to it.

6. If I have a mini disc player,
Could I rip my mini discs into iTunes and then transfer them onto an IPod? What about downloading songs using Kazaa or Limewire, can you transfer those into iTunes and then into your IPod? Or do you have to buy them?

16. Yes
You can use songs off of Kazaa and Limewire, if you wish. You can also buy single songs through iTunes. I think you can also rip minidiscs, but I'm not sure.

8. Time consuming? Says who?
It's a breeze!

The only thing that might take time is ripping your CDs into MP3s, if you don't already have them on the computer.

12. Depends...
Songs from computer to iPod = fast

Songs from CD to computer = slooooow...

I'd start ripping them now, if you have a lot of CDs you want to put on there.

15. I know this is hopelessly square but
does "ripping" mean that process when you copy the cd to your hard drive? Or is there some other process that I need to do?
:dunce:

18. Yes.
There'll be a button in the upper-right corner to press when you put your CD in. They don't call it ripping in iTunes, though, they call it something else, but you'll know it when you see it.

I used to put discs in when I'd get ready for work in the morning and go do that while it was ripping. Pretty soon I had a lot of them done.

...this is a cool site for free legal mp3s of stuff from independant labels that they're trying to promote. I'm addicted to it. It's like I use the reccomended and new mp3s from it as a kind of radio station.

That site is awesome! I just downloaded a Ken Nordine track that I didn't know about. I'm off to listen to it now. Thanks again.
