Am I the only person at DU that was a HS jock?
I admit it. Football, wrestling and track. Was I sposed to be studyin or somethin?

I once saw a DU reply which said that no self respecting Democrat would ever wear a jock. Balls I say!

Friday night butterflies
Like clockwork they'd arrive
A little chill and the October sky
Nervous till the kickoff game
4 quarters win or lose
Spent Saturdays black and blue
But it was what I love to do
And it was more than just a game...

Kenny Chesney

4. I played football until injuries ended it
and I have the knee surgery scars to prove it. I was an offensive tackle and popped a few ligaments and tendons around my left knee as a sophomore and spent the next two years in a soft cast.

Joy!

6. football and volleyball
I tried out for baseball my freshman year, but quit because they didn't have sweatpants big enough for my butt...and I couldn't do laps around the track.

I played football and volleyball my senior and junior years after I lost weight.

8. Actually, I was captain of the football team.
My freshman and sophomore years.

Then I picked up a guitar and started meeting girls. My interest in organized sports waned after that.

9. You have to understand that many DUers were pushed around by jocks
in high school. Here they can be the bullies and apply their self-righteous on other people. Sadly, they don't even realize what they are doing. Which is odd because I think no self-respecting Democrat could be a hypocrite. Indeed, we are all human.

13. Football, basketball, baseball and track for me.
I lettered in all four and had the opportunity to play college baseball. I took an academic scholarship instead.

I also fenced, but that was a non-letter sport at the time.

19. Soccer
it was only in my senior year that I realized that I wanted to be a long distance smartass instead.

I saw many kids pick up longterm near crippling injuries from sports. I now hate to see parents drive their kids into sports and then organize their whole family life around it. So often the kid feels like the world will come to a crashing end for them if they quit (they're right of course), and that's the only option. You can't take it a little easier: you're either in and devoted 100% to it (or 110%, as they like to say in sports ) or you're out. Meanwhile the brain atrophies and the growing bones and joints get torn up. Sports are great, it's the competition that's fucked up.

20. Nope. Softball & field hockey here.
True, I usually rode the pine during softball games and played JV hockey. But I was still a jock.

When I was a senior a fellow athlete was elected homecoming queen. Some girl sitting behind me, obviously rooting for the drill team leader, said, "I'm sure! She's a jock!" :eyes:

25. 4 years of football and track
but I also lettered in Bic lighter & bong technology combined with keg tapping. Used to drive my cross town track rivals nuts, we'd all be at the same party and they're "in training" for the next days meet and I'd be smoked....next day I'd kick 'it in the final curve of the 800&1600 for first place. They'd be so pissed
