Should Possum be eaten with the fingers?
Or should the fingers be eaten separately?

That's the kind of questions people from all over the world are asking this weekend! West Virginia is loaded down this weekend, with outsiders who know nothing of our customs or our food! They all came here to take a flying leap off of the 'New River Gorge Bridge' on 'Bridge Day'!

I worked on this bridge in 76-77 and I hung on for dear life every day, never dreaming someone would want to fall, let alone jump, off this metal monster in the years ahead! Hey, but let's go watch the crazies get wid it!

1. Absolutely not!
Possum should be eaten with SWEET TATERS!
They just go together, like burgers and fries.

4. You got that rite!
They need to open a nationwide chain of Possum resturants! To Hell with the Ozone layer I predict Possums will be extinct if Bush is reselected! They'll all be et-up! Possum hunting will be one of the best jobs in this state soon! Sweet Taders will be in vaults at FT Knox! Possums are headed down the same path as the Great Bison I'm A-Feard! Piles of Possum bones as far as the tearful eye can see! Oh well, we can always pick up beercans along the roads for quick cash! Do they make Synthetic Possum yet?

6. Actually ...
Possum is too greasy to eat with the fingers. (Unless you have lots of moist towelettes like they have at KFC)

13. possum cones?
or possum cream cones?
I mean would it be like a. chopped barbecued possum in the cones? or would you b. milk the possums and make ice possum cream?
If b., what flavor?
(or flavour, for the Brits)

8. Just as long as you don't eat them with chop suey...
...if you've heard the same Rudy Ray Moore record I have, you'll understand.

Actully, I didn't like sweet potatoes when I was growing up in aplace where I might actually be able to eat possum, so I haven't yet sampled the famous pairing. I have had squirrel, which ain't half bad -- all those nuts in their diet gives the meat a real nice flavor.

Up here in Wisconsin, most folks don't eat possum. They may try to milk 'em, though, I'm not sure.

I would prefer to sit on the sidelines with barbeque and beer myself.

3. That's a pretty area
but the Shenandoah River at Harper's Ferry is a much prettier gorge, though (maybe because) it is bridgeless.

5. Harper's Ferry is beautiful BUT,
New River And Gauley canyons are awsome! The Shenandoah Valley is beautiful too! You can just feel the ghosts at Harper's ferry! I love to go there, it's like walking back to 1860! The town has a great history gonig back to the time Lewis and Clark started the trip to the West Coast from Harper's Ferry! The Fire House that John Brown took and held during his raid! The Civil War battlefields around there make me very sad!

12. Harper's Ferry
What a wonderful spot. Great natural beauty with layers of history.

Note: I tried to check the National Park Service www.nps.gov/(for their Harper's Ferry info) but it was down. Checking around the web revealed that it was shut down in December 2001 for "national security" reasons. (?)

9. definitely WITH the fingers....
Reminds me of a time I was at a motel on the ocean and these two gentlemen (I use the term with tongue in cheek) were discussing the proper way to season turtle soup (in florida it is "cooter stew"). These two guys were arguing about the benefits of celery salt and real celery....I had to leave. Oh Lordy!!!!

14. No, you should remove their fingers before eating them.
The same goes for monkeys, chimps, and people.
