Poll question: A poll for lefties only
How adept are you at the dinner table when it comes to eating and cutting food?

Some of the time, I find myself switching hands to cut food with my left, and then switching my fork back to the left to eat what I've just cut. Sometimes, especially if I'm at a dinner or out with a large group, I will cut with my left and eat with the right. I don't think I've ever cut with my right and eaten with my left, though.

How do you manage, handwise, to cut and eat your meals?

knife down for good and just eat with my left. The hell with "propriety", especially if I have a righty sitting to my left...

EDIT: As the T-Shirt my sister got for me says: Only lefties are in their right minds.

4. How about other?
I cut with the right, lay the knife down, and use the fork in my right hand. Proper etiquette.

I use the right hand for the knife and the left for the fork, even though I'm right handed...my understanding of "proper" etiquette is that one doesn't (or at least shouldn't) switch utensils with the same hand (at least during the same course of the meal)...

"Cut off a piece, set the silverware down, transfer fork to left . . ." shenanigans that righties do.

Why do they do that?

9. I cut right and eat right.

My Brit wife says this is not done there. One eats with both hands, cutting and shoveling with both fists in some swoop.

She thinks we Americans are funny, continually cutting and putting down to pick back up again.

But then, as we know, they drive on the WRONG side of the road. LOL

On edit...just realized it was for lefties.

Pretty much the same rules apply, my wife's a lefty and she scoops up on both sides with the best of them.

...continue on...nothing to see here....move on....you have homes to go to.....nothing to see....keep moving.....

11. Cut left - eat left
actually it's kind of good that way, it slows down the eating which gives you time to fill up.

I go ahead and cut it all up. After that, I eat with my left too. I can't eat right handed. That could be hazardous to my face. I DEFINITELY wouldn't attempt cutting right handed. I'd really hurt myself. It wouldn't matter if I used at steak knife or a

I have an aversion to hurting me. :P

13. Cut right and eat left
But given my druthers I eat alone - forget knives forks spoons, I just shove it all in with both hands. It's pretty ugly - so I try to make sure no one has to watch.

I have very good table manners, but I'm a barbarian at heart. Give me an axe, a cow and something (like my shirt) to wipe the juices off my shaggy moustache and I'm happy. A Viking boy, me.

Khash.

14. Cut with the Left
but which hand I fork up with depends on where I am. If I'm at home, I'll switch and fork up with the left, if I'm eating out I fork up with the right since it minimizes my chances of elbowing anyone.;)
