There's too much bashing of 70s AM radio hits on this board
The latest outrage is another thread devoted to the worst song ever. Post after post after post trashes some classic from one of the most idyllic periods in American music.

I just want to put you on notice that any derision of...

"Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan
"Shannon" by Henry Gross
"Kung Fu Fighting" by Carl Douglas
"Billy, Don't Be a Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods
"Smokin' in the Boys' Room" by Brownsville Station
"Love Will Keep Us Together" by the Captain and Tennille
"Wildfire" by Michael McDonald
"If You Love Me, Let Me Know" by Olivia Newton-John
"Thunder Island" by Jay Ferguson

...will not be tolerated.

I would gladly trade a THOUSAND of today's popular songs for just ONE by the Bay City Rollers. JUST ONE.

1. Pfffttt...
Any list that does not include Terry Jack's "Seasons in the Sun" is not worth the bandwith, IMHO.

Not to mention "Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves"

3. They already bashed "Seasons in the Sun" on the other thread
Which is why I didn't mention it.

Anyway, I love that song. Once, during a bout of depression in college, I played Jacks's "Seasons in the Sun" 30 times in a row as loud as my stereo could play it. My dormmates had to get the night proctor to unlock the door and stop the madness.

4. I agree
Seventies AM pop is some of my favorite music of all-time. Really. Most of them are just too catchy not to like. (Of your list, I like all of them except "If You Love Me, Let Me Know"; even I don't care for Olivia Newton-John- though I respect others' rights to like her as long as they respect my right to like America (the band)!)

5. Well, surely we can deride...
"Once You Understand" by Stink, er, I mean, Think...

Things get a little easier, once you understand... (Repeated in background approximately 16 million times until the song finally ends or you run outside screaming with a machete--whichever comes first...)

Mom: Are you sure nobody kept you company tonight while you were baby sitting?
Girl: What's that supposed to mean?
Mom: Just curious.
Girl: Admit it mom, you don't trust me!

Boy: Hey dad, did you see my new guitar? I joined a group.
Dad: Son, there's a little more to life than joining a group and playing a guitar.
Boy: Yeah dad, what is there to life. (life, life...)

Music and background singing STOP

Police officer: Mr Cook...Do you have a son named Robin, Robin Cook age 17?
Dad: Yes.
Police officer: I'm sorry Mr Cook, you better come down to the station house. Your son is dead.
Dad: Dead? How?
Police officer: He died of an overdose.
Dad: Oh my god!

Things get a little easier, once you understand...

8. What the hell is THAT?!
I don't think they ever played that on my local A.M. station.

10. You can google it...
That's how I found the "lyrics." Or whatever you call 'em. Really, the only lyrics are: "Things get a little easier, once you understand." Repeated OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER...

Everything else is spoken. There's a lot more than what I posted. Basically every "misunderstood teen" cliche in the world.

I think it came out in 1971 or '72. Dr. Demento used to play it occasionally...despite the death threats...;)

12. I know that one!
Definitely one of the stranger "social consciousness" songs to ever make the charts. What's funnier is that it actually charted twice!

6. I like your list except for The Captain and Tennille .....
....God, how I hate them! "Muskrat Love"........total crap!

"Love Will Keep Us Together"....I'd rather be ripped apart by weasels then listen to that hideous dreck ever again.

"Do That To Me One More Time".....Yeah, I'll do it, if you promise not to ever sing that garbage ever again!

7. I promise not to trash
"Wildfire" by Michael McDonald on your list.

I reserve to the right to trash "Wildfire" by Michael Martin Murphy though!

11. I'm sure there's a special corner of Hell reserved for the bastards that
inflicted this music upon us, a place where that insipid dreck is played 24/7 for eternity. I, myself, would prefer fire and brimstone.
