I just opened a bag of coins from Ma's house and I found coins from
1835-1967. All silver Kennedy halfs, Real Silver dollars from 1880-1926. Liberty one cent pieces from 1897-1912, tons of Buffalo nickels, tons of Indian head pennies, and "One Cent" pennies all in mint condition. US One cent pieces from 1827-53! Many Canadian, British, Italian, Irish, Dutch and German coins from 1853-1960!
This is fucking unbeleivable. My parents gots this from their great grandparents who got them from some of their ancestors!
Does anyone here think that I have anything of value?
Are there any rare coin sites worth a shit?

5. Google for coin collectors.
I'd try several sources so you know the ballpark price of each coin, before I started selling them. Might be a good idea and try e-bay once you know the values.

10. Forget Ebay and private collector sites for now.
The first thing you need to do is find a numismatics group in your area and get a recommendation for a good, fair, local coin appraiser. After that, take your collection in and get a professional appraisal. Make it clear to the appraiser that you aren't interested in selling the coins, but just need to know their individual full current value for insurance purposes. You should probably have him put them in mylars and label them while he's at it, to keep them from further damage and for easy identification later. You'll pay a little bit of money to have this done, but it's the only way to be sure of the coins value before putting it up for sale.

11. My husband collects coins and recommended these sites:
http://www.coingrading.com/others1.html

http://www.pcgs.com/prices/

They'll give you an idea of the coin's value.

15. Quick tip: Don't try cleaning them
We cleaned a few up that we found (we were trying to make them more eye-appealing/valuable), and the coin dealer said "Who cleaned these? They're almost worthless now!"

19. those aren't silver pennies, they are steel.......
Kennedy halves from 1964 are 90% silver, the 1965 halves are 40% silver. Later dates are clad coinage and basically worth 50-cents.

What's a liberty one cent piece from 1897-1912? There's no such animal. There were Indian cents from 1864-1909, then the Lincoln cent from 1909-present.

Buffalo nickels are cool - no "in god we trust".

A friendly tip - there is no such thing as a reputable coin dealer. Do your own homework. A good starting place is the Red Book, "A Guide Book of United States Coins".

The one cent pieces from 1827-53 are large cents. These sound like your best bet if they are in better-than-average condition.
