What's the WORST song you have ever heard?
In my opinion, it's "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head." I don't even remember who wrote it--just that it was a terrible, terrible song. I would rather chew a jumbo roll of tinfoil than hear it again.

I once met her and her mother in a NJ mall and bought her first 45 rpm single. Luckily, I lost it.

17. All time worst
Shoedance by KaTe Bush. She's a goddess, but this sucks big time. Whenever I hear it I start looking for an icepick so I can puncture my eardrums and then start stabbing myself randomly, hoping I might possibly do enough damage to die and never ever have to hear it again.

28. You are infinitely lucky
Shoedance is the dance remix of The Red Shoes and it goes on forever, literally. She mixed in samples of Miranda Richardson from the movie they made of the album.

You'd think, decent song, KaTe, Miranda, what could possibly go wrong? Apparently everything.

37. I'll believe in that CD when I hold it in my feverish hands
She did announce that it's coming out later this year, but.... she did the same thing two years ago, three years ago, five years ago and eight years ago.

She may not be the boy who cried wolf, but she's definitely the girl who cried album. But I'll cut her some slack - raising a kid is hard work and maybe Bertie is old enough now that she has time for other things.

But KaTe is a law unto herself - she does what she wants when she wants and the rest of us just have to either lump it or like it.

KaTe fans are like Oliver Twist: "Please, ma'am, may I have some more?"

Khash.

49. Fruitopia came before Bertie
And her mother died and she and Del Palmer broke up and Bertie showed up and she got stalked - the girl's had a few rough years. And she still managed "The Red Shoes" - her weakest album but the old magic was still there. She shines brightly on Big Stripey Lie, Constellation of the Heart, and Lily. I think Song of Solomon shows the first steps in a new and exciting direction for her. How many people can make a bad album and still demand a following? KaTe can.

Anyway the studio has been renovated, and lots of reliable cool musicians have said they worked on the new CD and have rave reviews about it. So I'll give it the benefit of the doubt..... but even if she never records another album... she's still put herself among the gods.

Khash.

53. Yeah they were together from the year dot
But while making The Red Shoes, she and Del broke up, her Mama died, and she got pregnant (and Del wasn't the Daddy). I think any one of those counts as a serious life trauma.

Anyway, Del is either engineering or producing the new album. I don't know if they are back together as lovers but they are back together in a working relationship. And Del knows her and her music better than anyone except maybe her brother Paddy.

So I'll believe it when I see it, but I do have high expectations.

Khash.

47. Funny story about that song
Terry Jacks never intended to release it. Then one day his paperboy came over to collect on Jacks' monthly subscription while Jacks was listening to a demo at his house. The paperboy thought the song was great, then had all his friends come over to listen to it. Jacks was so inspired by this that he finished the song (with the help of the immortal guitarist Link Wray) and he released it. It was a huge hit--even making the top ten songs of 1974, if I'm not mistaken.

So blame that one on the paperboy.

Made me think of:

Little Green Apples

God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And there's no such thing as Doctor Seuss
Or Disneyland, and Mother Goose, no nursery rhyme
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And when my self is feelin' low
I think about her face aglow and ease my mind

Sometimes I call her up at home knowin' she's busy
And ask her if she could get away and meet me
And maybe we could grab a bite to eat
And she drops what she's doin' and she hurries down to meet me
And I'm always late
But she sits waitin' patiently and smiles when she first sees me
'cause she's made that way

And if that ain't lovin' me
Then all I've got to say
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't snow in Minneapolis when the winter comes
And there's no such thing as make-believe
Puppy dogs, autumn leaves 'n' BB guns
FADE
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis

64. Butt-fly Kisses
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 08:49 PM by onager
Look upon this and let your blood run cold...

There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven and she's Daddy's Little Girl
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes and I thank God for all of the joy in my life
Oh but most of all...

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in hair
"Walk beside the pony Daddy, It's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny Daddy, But I sure tried"

Oh with all that I've done wrong I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning and butterfly kisses at night...
Sweet 16 today, she's looking like her momma a little more every day
One part woman the other part girl, to perfume and make-up ribbons and pearls
Trying her wings out in a great big world, but I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Sticking little white flowers all up in her hair
"You know how much I love you Daddy
But if you don't mind, I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time...

It goes on, for what seems to be about 5 years. But my gag reflex is only so strong.

From the immortal Bob Carlisle, the Poet Laureate of Wal-Mart. I guess he's immortal, since he's been writing dreck like this forever. He wrote another masterpiece called "On My Knees." It may be about Jesus. Or not.

...an acid trip. He wrote it.

It could have been worse. Imagine if Webb's favorite vocal collaborator had sung it: Glen Campbell.

For the morbidly curious, there is a MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, and I guess that's where Webb got the...cough-cough...inspiration.

67. Speaking of Glen Campbell..
How about "Dreams of the Everyday Housewife?"

"She picks up her apron in little-girl fashion
As something comes into her mind
Slowly starts dancing, remembering her girlhood
And all of the boys she had waiting in line.
Oh, such are the dreams of the everyday housewife
You see everywhere any time of the day
An everyday housewife who gave up the good life for me!"

What a swell guy!

...with ol' Glen during his Tanya Tucker years...

Such are the dreams of...
"Tanya, open this fucking door or I'm gonna kick it down, you stupid bitch! Did you flush my coke down the shitter again?"

68. Old Turkey Buzzard
by Jose Feliciano--was the theme song for a Gregory Peck movie--a western--that was also the worst movie I ever saw.
