for real! I was walking out to the team house this afternoon and something caught my eye. It was a rather large hawk eating something right in the middle of the practice football field. I went inside and got my one professor and we went back out with his camera. We were able to get within 10 feet of it (we didn't go any closer because those talons looked quite sharp!) and take some pictures. If he remembers to send them to me I'll post them. So anyway we thought at first it was eating a rabbit but upon closer inspection it was eating a stark white bird, I can't imagine it could have been anything other than a dove.
But we both had a good chuckle over the fact that a hawk was eating a dove...almost a poetic image, don't you think?
5. Hawks Occassionally Get Doves On Ground Outside My Window.
We have a bird feeder and the doves eat the stuff that falls to the ground.
All the sudden, out of nowhere, one of the doves will explode in a furious cloud of feathers and you see a hawk lifing itself and its next meal up into the sky.
7. Where I work, there are lots of fat little squirrels outside ...
Cause everyone here feeds them. And the smartest hawk ever has decided to make this his home as well. No hawk eats better than him. I've gotten to see him in action a couple times - I even have a pretty graphic photograph of one of his lunches. :D
