If you had to pick only one band to listen to for the rest of you life.
Could you?

I couldn't. There are far too many bands and singers I love. :o

1. That's pretty tough
If I HAD to do it, I would say the Stones, they have put out so many albums atleast I'd have some variety.

3. R.E.M.
I have a 6-disk changer in the car, 2 CD players in the house, and Rhapsody on both computers.

Every day, at least one of them is playing R.E.M. in some fashion.

I never get sick of them - I find new things to enjoy every time I hear one of their songs.

But I'd rather not have to make that choice.

8. I'm going to expose my dorkiness (and lack of musical tastes)
and say STYX, because I grew up listening to them...

Of course, if you want a solo singer song-writer, rather than a Band, I think you know who I'd pick.

11. I couldn't either
But if you held a gun to my head.... I'd waffle around between the Doors, Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. In the end you'd have to shoot me, which on a question like this, would be an act of mercy.

Wait! What about the Cocteau Twins, Nirvana, Hole? Oh yeah, you already shot me... never mind.

Khash.

14. David Garza, hands down.
(should be an accent on the "i", as in "Dah-veed", but i don't know how to do that here in DU).

He came out of the Austin scene some years ago, and now resides in LA. He had a flirt with the majors (check out the excellent CD "This Euphoria" on Lava/Atlantic). He's incredibly prolific, and varied. His style ranges from funk to indie to many World Music influences. But basically, Garza just writes and performs great pop/rock. I'm constantly amazed he's not a HUGE star yet.

Anyway, I've written about music, Deejayed, published a zine, and seen hundreds if not more live shows... and I always come back to David. Never get tired of his music, although I do get tired of most of my other favorite acts.

Check him out.

68. Wow, you and me make two on DU! I've mentioned him several times...
... when music comes up on DU, and never got so much as a peep.

Used to see him play in the early days (1990 or so?) in Baton Rouge, right after he went solo after "Twang Twang Shock-a-boom". Those were some GREAT shows.

Last time I saw him was on the "This Euphoria" tour about 7 years ago. Got to hang out backstage with him... that was cool. Got to snub Rob whats-hi-name from Matchbox 20... that was cooler (always thought he was way overrated).

39. I couldn't possibly...
What could I give up? My tastes run all over the map! From Stephane Grappelli jazz violin to Joplin rags and through all the usual suspects; Classic Rock (heavy on The Beatles), Bluegrass, Newgrass, Jazz, Fusion, Grateful Dead, Cajun and Zydeco, Celtic; and not forgetting Classical, Opera, Operetta, Strauss waltzes and Sousa marches. Whew! And I'm sure I've left something out of this list here.

One band? I can't even narrow it to one genre.
