Ever heard of "California-style" fried chicken?
I liked to eat my "Colonel chicken" w/ honey on it when I was a kid, because that's how my mom ate it.

But here in So. Maryland there's a chain called "Cluck U Chicken" that sells "California-style" fried chicken. What makes it California-style is that they pour warm honey over it before they serve it.

Ever heard of this -- either the condiment or the name?

(BTW, it is delicious. Try honey on fried chicken sometime.)

3. I've never heard of that before.....
But it does sound good.I used to get fried chicken from this take-out place where they put hot sauce inside the pieces, then breaded them and deep fried them. Oh,it was so delicious! Then another place used just garlic (breaded too),which was very good also.I will try the honey.....I love honey and it's good for you too. :hi:

4. my mom always serves liquid honey with fried or shake/back chicken ....
Nobody else we know does this, so it puzzled me when I was growing up (my family's in the Great Lakes region now but mom's from the West Coast).

I wonder if that's where it comes from?

7. I'm a native and had never heard of anything called "CA-style" fried chix
so I was actually offended! :7

Yep, it's really called that. Their biscuits -- deep fried, almost like raised donuts w/out the glaze -- are called "clucker bees."

6. I always thought "California Style" meant they put in a side of black
beans and tortillas ala that crazy chain they got out there.

Funny story. My brother and sister in law were in town last year from L.A. We took them to a Middle Eastern restaurant (this is Michigan so there are lots). She like it but said, "It's not real Middle Eastern food...not like the kind we have in L.A., but it's good anyway." Yes we do not have real Middle Eastern food. Here in the state that has the highest concentration of people of middle Eastern descent outside of the Middle East. :eyes: She's really something. :hi:

8. When I lived in Hawaii, there was a Pioneer Chicken.
It included honey in the crust, I think. But I don't recall it being referred to as "California-style". Pioneer Chicken was based in California, so maybe that's how the term came into use.
