My grandmother has osteoporsis and is in extreme pain
I feel helpless to do anything to help give her even a moment's relief, none of the painkillers prescribed have helped, or made her have unpleasant side effects (I'm not sure which ones she was prescribed), and even tried acupuncture, which didn't help either, unfortunately. She has been very depressed and her eyes emanate pain. It breaks my heart, I don't know what to do. Anyone have any experience with osteoporosis that can suggest anything? as a last resort I'm considering making a batch of "special" brownies, I heard that can be an effective form of pain relief, and at this point she may be open to anything!

2. Start baking
Anything is worth a try. Do you think a spa bath would help? Maybe take her to the Y (if you have a nice one) and toss her in the hot tub with the jets, or if she can move about at all, see if they have one of those super warm pools where she can get in and just be able to take the weight off her bones. You also might want to find out what she is on, do some googling, and then, if she can't fight with her doctor, you go with her and help her bitch. No reason for people to hurt like that, it is just wrong.

5. Hot tub with A LOT of epsom salts
and yes, being her advocate to the doctors would probably be helpful.

4. I'm suprised accupuncture didn't work
You might want to try a different accupuncturist. The first one I tried did absolutly nothing for me, but at my chirpractors urging, I tried one that he recommended and the results have been terrific.

As for special brownies, I don't know if it will help, but can it hurt? Just give her a heads up that they might make her feel better. I say this from experience. Make the brownies mild, since she's old and may never have had them before.

Good luck to you and grandmother!

7. The brownies are a good idea....
Her Dr might consider a fentanyl patch. They come in different strengths, and are time released(over 3 days)..through the skin.If she has any untoward side effects, she just needs to remove the patch. It has worked for a lot of my patients who don't tolerate oral pain medication.

10. Thank you, that is very helpful!
She does have a sensitive tummy, that's part of the problem. her doc is old school and I have suggested another doc but my grandfather is very controlling, but he's not the one in pain. I will do everything on my power to try to get her the proper treatment!

8. MJ is probably the answer, but...
okay, I know this goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway: never give drugs to someone without their consent.

If she has other health problems, you should consult with her physician first.
