I just signed my lease!
:bounce:

I've been around DU for over two years now and over the past year many people have heard me whine at various times about my less-than-ideal marital situation. At one point, we very much loved one another, but, as many of you know from your own experiences, sometimes being apart ultimately ends up being better than staying, fighting, and being miserable for the rest of one's life (and passing along that dysfunctional legacy to one's children). Once we came to this decision last Summer (after counseling, soul-searching and beyond), it took quite awhile to get all the practical stuff in order (legally, financially, and arrangements with our children), but I'm there at last. The dark tunnel is almost done. I move in 9 days and I'm very, very at peace right now. :)

I know you've been through some tough times. I'm glad you now have something to look forward to.

You could hold off moving until the Boston DU gathering, and then have us all help you move.... lol

3. Way to go!
When my ex-wife and I split, it was really difficult, but signing my lease and moving out was such a relieving moment. We are really good friends now (which is how things started in the first place), and we share a little boy that is growing up in two happy houses instead of one angry, mean, and hurtful one.

Wishing you the best, and congrats!

36. That's what I'm hoping for.
They love us both and I want them to have happy, loving parents, not ones in this tension-filled Hellish limbo. I know it'll be a change, but ultimately, I think it's been long overdue and positive for both of us.

and glad you are at peace. I'm not good at giving anyone comforting advice so, I'll pass along a little something that was said to me in the service,"two gun, don't sweat the small shit". Sorry. Best I can do for ya.

7. Congratualtions!
Glad you were able to make it mutual. My wife and I split ten years ago, and it my decision. But it was definitely the right thing and we have been able to stay on pretty good terms and raise our daughter together.

To coin a phrase, today is the first day of the rest of your life. A lot of people never get over that hump. You've shown courage in being able to take that step.

29. Yeah, he has his issues.
Hopefully, he'll continue along his own path of awareness and find that peace within himself. I'll always care for him on a human level and want him to be happy in life. I can't meet his needs, but hopefully he'll find that someday.

27. I'm not sure where life is going to take me.
I'm glad though I did things the right way, tried to be a decent, responsible parent (my ex too- lousy husband, but great dad), and wherever life takes me, I know I can handle anything that is thrown my way. Barriers? Ha, I eat barriers for breakfast! :D

Congrats too by the way on you recent move. It must be beyond wonderful to be together. :)

14. Congratulations SarahBelle
I know you've been through some very trying times with this - I'm so glad to hear that you'll soon have your own space. What a difference that makes!

I was married and a mom at nineteen and before that, had only lived either at home or with a roommate. It wasn't until I divorced my second husband that I finally had a place that was MINE, my own, with no one else but my kids to share it with. It was so cool. I realized that I had been compromising and giving in for so long that I had no real idea of what I liked and wanted around me. It was a true voyage of discovery at the age of 35.

I'm really happy for you. :bounce:

16. And my dad got a full-time job today!
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 09:08 PM by SarahBelle
One of those great Karma days I guess, so if anyone wants to spoil my mood and tell me bad news, please don't. Just tell me life is amazingly wonderful and so am I.

Anyway, my dad's an attorney who has spent his whole career not getting rich, but doing law for non-profit human service agencies, planning and zoning for building of residences for developmentally delayed people, etc. and was laid off several years ago (in part due to some issues surrounding our weasel ex-governor/convicted felon Roland) and since has only been able to work part time and doing consulting work. He finally got something full time in his field, which at the age of 59, in this economy no less, is something we all all very thankful for.
My dad sometimes drives me nuts, but he is the one person in my life who always loves me unconditionally, so if you will bear with me a moment, please give another happy toast to my dad- :toast: who proves that, yes, there are ethical attorneys and I'm proud one of them is him. We may not be rich, but we have our values and our integrity and there's something to be said for that in the end.

21. Sometimes, this place has been my lifeline.
I mean, I've met a number of from DU, but in some way, I feel safe to express myself at times when I needed to. I tend to be a person who isolates when I feel down and it's not always healthy. It's kind of gotten me out of that pattern in general in my life (even offline :P) which is a very good thing.
