Students protest gay rights
Under the watchful eye of police officers and media cameras, the student leader of Rancho Cotate High School's controversial Conservative Club led an off-campus protest Wednesday against gay rights.

Tim Bueler, 18, president of the club and the related High School Conservative Clubs of America, joined about a dozen protesters in a lunchtime demonstration across the street from the Rohnert Park school.

Bueler, who last year drew nationwide attention after starting the Conservative Club and claiming liberal bias in the classroom, called the demonstration "a day to stand up for God's truth." He said it was organized to protest a planned event Friday by the school's Gay-Straight Alliance Club.

Senior Christina Morey, president of the Gay-Straight Alliance, said Wednesday's anti-gay demonstration is proof that efforts to promote tolerance of alternative lifestyles are needed.

5. Elaboration
Marriage is a religious construct...

<micro rant>

Although I believe marriage is a generally positive thing for society to recognize...the fact that it's based on a religious doctrine, thus prohibiting "deviates" from marrying, flat out SCREAMS that THIS religious belief WILL be socially, and legally enforced.

14. I'm not talking about marriage.

While gay marriage is something that they were protesting, they also were admonishing people simply for being gay. They had signs up that had a circle and a cross-out of the word "gay." They were bashing homosexuals in general, not just gay marriage.

2. Proving my point
I feel EVERYONE should have a voice...so I support these students right to demonstrate...that they are idiots.

I've said it many times (not in here 'cause I'm a noob), the anti-gay movement is 99% religiously driven, and it pisses me off.

iN 3...2...1...

Marriage is claimed to be the union of a man and woman before "God" and country. Take the "God" part out, because that's a ceremony, and not legally viable. Now we have a union between a man and woman before country: legally; a contract. Break it down further: you have a legal contract between a man and a woman...but you can't restrict consenting adults from entering a contract...so you can't limit it to a man and a woman.

Basically, because "God" is in the equasion...the right says it's wrong.

IT'S A LEGAL CONTRACT...NOTHING MORE!!!

6. And a contract more than 50% of our people treat as inconsequential,
judging by the divorce rate.

9. how dare you!!!
Now you're saying that those cramming religion down our throats are 2-faced???

They don't want to admit it's a religious argument because their own people are defying their own beliefs.

by basic human rights being extended to every other human being on earth. I feel sorry for these misguided young people who obviously aren't thinking for themselves, but simply parroting what bigoted adults have told them.

(Edited for spelling.)

16. Shockingly stupid even for bigots.
I agree completely with Christina Morey...if this isn't a call for gay-straight alliances in every high school in the country, I don't know what is.
