2. For some reason, we seem to care about our posts around here. I have
no idea why.

6. Why Not?
I don't understand the sentiment that we shouldn't care. If someone cares, and the system counts the posts for us, what's the big deal if someone takes pride in their involvement here at DU? I was excited when i hit 10,000. Again, why shouldn't i be?

Just harmless fun in keeping track, no?

7. Yeah, I guess you're right.
What you say is true. But I know that personally, my post count is deceiving, anyway. I don't have that many posts to begin with (less than 5000 since October, 2002), but even the amount that I have doesn't say much. Tons of my posts were simply saying things like, "LOL, that was funny!" or "Nice post!" or "Welcome to DU! :hi:"

So, if you only counted my meaningful posts, I'd probably only have like 2000 or so.

8. Complimenting Other People Is Meaningful
If someone says something humorous, and you let them know you thought it was funny, that has a lot of value. We all get validation by the feedback of like-minded people.

Welcoming someone, complimenting their post, asking a question, all have intrinsic value. I think you would be higher than the 2000 you state. I think you're undervaluing the importance of community here at DU.
