Have you ever unclogged a toilet with dishwashing liquid?
I've got a VERY clogged toilet at home. Completely my fault, completely natural (that is, nothing was flushed that shouldn't have been). While looking for ideas on how to unclog it (other than by simple plunging, which I've done to no avail), I found a site with a number of testimonials to the benefits of using dishwashing liquid. Supposedly, it works quickly and effectively.

So, have any of you ever tried this, and if so, did it work?

1. dishwashing or dishwasher?
i have used the dishwasher stuff, more for keeping a bad drain from plugging. it doesn't foam, but other than that it's probably the same. i have known it to work, but not quickly.
i suggest that you invest $10-15 in a snake. that's the best way.

2. Dishwashing
Couldn't do dishwasher without spending more money, as we've got these new Cascade pellet things. I suppose I could break one open, and get the best of both options.

3. Pour a lot of Bleach in the toilet. It dissolves just about every thing.
...give it about an hour.

6. bad idea
be very careful with what you put down a clogged drain. you may need to further plunge, or fish around in this water. i, personally, never put anything in a drain that i don't want to put my hands in. and i try not to dump any more chemicals in the water than i have to, also.
a snake is a really worthy investment for any homeowner, imho. but i am a tool junkie.

5. we bought a "snake" at home depot
it's come in handy many a time.

Be VERY careful about putting caustic stuff in the toilet. If it works and the clogs starts to clear there can be a big "glug" that splurts chemical water back in your face.
