We need to PURIFY the language in this Country...
Dammit, Americans need to speak AMERICAN for once. We need to more than half the states, roads, and rivers and lakes to do it, along with cities, but dammit, it needs to be done!!!!! What the hell is a Missouri anyways, nuthin but a word from one of those heathen Native languages no doubt. Same goes for Chicago, and those Godsforsaken Cities named by the French, those Anti-American DOGS, St. Louis and New Orleans. And while were at it, let's purify the language itself, no more Entreprenuers, no siree! Those are "Business self starters" good men and women who use our God given capitalism and turn out rich in the process. Oh yes, that's the AMERICAN Way of life dammit!!(Toungue firmly planted in cheek)

Wondering where this rant came from?

Afterword, we also need to purge those terroristic numbers from our country as well, if Roman Numerals were good enough for them, then they are good enough for us.

3. We're gonna switch over to Newspeak in a couple more years.
I think they're still working on the revised dictionary at the moment.

Doubleplus good.

6. I would say that here, and in that thread, you have gone totally overboard
I didn't see anyone in that thread talking about "purifying" the language, in any way, whether getting rid of "foreign" words or making it illegal to speak any language but "American" or anything you complain about.

Histrionics and overindulgent emotionalism are NOT a subsitute for discourse.

7. First off, its a freaking joke....

Second off, it was more the issue, and Americans' General attitude towards it, not necessarily DU or members here. However, I do find the fear that Spanish of all languages may be allowed to have a word or two on road signs of all things amusing, to say the least. Lighten up a little bit.

ON EDIT: Not to threadjack my own thread, but where did I go overboard in the other thread? Hell I took a more cautious side than some, at least in regards to the issue itself, yes I was sarcastic in some remarks, but I was responding to irrational assertions, so what? I maintain a rather practical stance on the issue, its a solution looking for a problem, and therefore, doesn't need to be legislated at all, why bother with a non-issue to begin with? I just find it aggravating that such a non-issue is even present on DU, what goal is there to even try to present it as a real issue?
