Got in my first ever car accident today....

To make a long-ish story short, there was gobs of traffic due to another, big accident up the road. The car two cars in front of me stopped short to make a left turn, guy in front of me managed to stop before he hit that car, but I didn't make it to a stop without hitting his car. I did, at least, have time to swerve to the right, so the back right-hand corner of his car sort of ran along the driver-side front 1/4 of my van.

Luckily, I am ok, and his car wasn't damaged much. He was really nice, which was good, I was a bit of a mess at first. :scared: My insurance will cover the damage to his car, and most of it to mine.... new tire, new bumper (probably), new 1/4 panel, some work to the door, new lights, new mirror. Ugh. But at least no one got hurt.

My insurance company will cut a check, but since we still have a loan on the van, it has to be signed by me and the bank. Which is not local. At all. That's gonna be fun to figure out. Wish me luck.

but thankfully no one was hurt. Cars can be fixed or replaced but our bodies aren't always so lucky.

I am so sorry. Was Anja in the car too? I'm glad everyone's ok and I'm sorry about all the bureaucratic stuff too. After all the adrenaline dies down, that can be rough sometimes. I hope everything turns out alright for you guys. :hug:

Luckily, I hadn't picked her up yet, so that was one good thing. Geico's been really nice, it's not their fault that they have to cut the check that way, just sucks for me. The adrenaline was crazy... I think I was shaking for a good 45 minutes or an hour afterward. While it was happening, I didn't have time to feel anything, just react.

16. I know how you feel

2 years ago, in december I was driving my car to go to the mall to do some Christmas shopping. It had snowed a couple of days before and was raining. The snow-ice-rain sludge covered the roads. A car two spots infront stopped suddenly, and the SUV infront hit their brakes and so did I. But my car hydroplaned and careened out of control, into the SUV. The fact that it was higher off the ground than my Nissan made the damage to them much less and to me much worse. My car was totaled.

That sounds awful and scary... Glad you're ok. I'm lucky the weather was fine this afternoon and the roads were dry. Traffic was just nuts from the other accident, though, people honking all over the place and stuff to start with. I felt bad adding to it!
