Larry King rant
Okay, I've had enough. I just turned on CNN to see what was up. Jane Fonda is his guest tonight. I wasn't planning to listen, as I have on AAR, but the banner on the bottom says "Jane Fonda on her dark secrets, HER CHRISTIAN FAITH, being a tabloid target and more."

NOW. I'm certainly not dissing anyone's religious beliefs (I have them myself). But is everyone expected to discuss them these days? If she were a Buddhist, would it say "her Buddhist faith?" Muslim? Hindu? Shinto? Does it really add anything to the conversation? Can we truly not understand Jane Fonda without hearing about her Christian faith? Why does this have to be part of the dialogue?

I feel that I'm not getting my point across, so I hope people understand what I'm trying to say.

2. I'm still maintaining my personal Larry King death watch
He's wearing me down, but I'm not giving up.

But back to what you were saying, yes, I understand. And no, it wouldn't say "Buddhist faith" it would be something they either ignored or say "(non-)practicing Buddhist" (depending on the individual and whether they were practicing or not. Anyway, other religions aren't described as "faiths" and they aren't asked about how or which denomination they practice but why they practice their chosen faith. Am I making sense?

Anyway, I know I've upset people when I've compared their faiths to the "pagan belief" systems. I've referred to saints as part of the semi-deities like lesser Greek gods and pissed people off. It wasn't intentional when I did it, it was my attempt to understand it. I don't do that with people I don't know any more.

I guess this is the new litmus test. If you profess your faith you're not a complete outsider. Perhaps it is Larry's way of making Jane less abhorrent to the masses.
