If someone supports genetically modified food.
Do they also support genetically modified humans?

1. Actually bionics, if you want to get technical...

would be implanting machine parts into people to enhance or replace lost function in the body. Like an Artificial Heart or some other device, even a pacemaker could qualify to make someone "Bionic" in the Science Fiction variety. GM People would be those with gene therapies that eliminates a hereditary risk to like heart disease or some other malady that is a genetic vault. The question of course becomes, if the gene in question that solves the problem is patentable, could you, having children after the therapy, be sued for IP infringement(Illegal copying of a gene)? That is a problem I have with GM lifeforms, not necessarily safety concerns, but how patent law applies to them. Patents shouldn't apply to self contained and reproducable lifefors, and didn't, not until 1989 at least.

4. Well in that case...
I fear bionics, the last thing we need is to start up the Borg project, "WE ARE THE BORG, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE...."

3. I agree, the IP issue is the kicker
I don't see why any GM food would be inherently less safe than the non-GM alternative. Fuzzy-headed complaints that it's "unnatural" don't go very far. You could by the same reasoning say that corn is "unnatural."

It's the idea that lifeforms -- which have a tendency to reproduce without regard to any laws -- can be patented.
